Each tier is a little tougher than the one below, and they do start getting armour plates. Their toughness is independent from you and your level / skills or weapons.
What makes a difference for you is the tier of your weapons, your damage improvement skills in the skill tree, and where on the robot you're shooting it. The more sparks you get, the more damage you're doing, like a multiplier. Big blue sparks is best. When it stops sparking a lot, shoot it somewhere else. And yes, some robots take a lot of damage.
Additionally, the rockets are for groups of weaker robots. Don't bother using those on the big ones because that's not what they're for.
It is only that easy on "Adventure" setting. "Skirmish" takes a serious amount ammo to take out a large unit. So much so I have drained off over 2000 7.62mm with an AG4 T3, after leaving the Archipelago region, and barely made any headway in to the main map.
yea that's what i'm dealing with on guerilla. bright side is that the dlc while ramping things up a lot, also give good weapons and lots of nades/claymores so you end up super strong if you do them first
But I play in Skirmish, with a level of difficulty according to the number of players and even so the enemies are relatively easy to kill, I have to leave the 7.62 ammunition because I already have more than 10,000 and I have no more space to store it. I guess when you shoot the weak points and you use EMP and flares it makes everything easier
I remember that a person entered my game and using an EMP he killed one of the big robots in just a few seconds, he told me that way he kills when he plays alone and it was really incredibly fast. He alone destroyed one of the big robots, not the one that appears in the game's photo, I mean the other one that has 4 legs. He crawled on the ground, got under him without being detected and in less than 5 seconds the robot was destroyed.
That is a relatively easy task, compared to trying to even get near one later in the game. With AP ammo, a tweaked out gun and "free" weak point hits on stunned enemies, it makes the game seem easy.
Try that in late game though and you will get turned in to mince meat before you get near it. And if you do managed to sneak up on it and blow it up, it's buddies then spam rockets at you from hidden positions and stun lock you in to oblivion. Or gas you. Or just 1-shot you with explosive ammo. Or chase you across the map for 40mins through dense woodland and buildings, because they all have IR or X-ray vision. All while setting you on fire and poisoning you with basic attacks, spamming ticks, and leaping at you from 20m to melee attack.
Apocalypse units are no joke.
Hahaha I haven't gotten to that point yet, it will be really fun to watch, I can't wait
BTW: Someone wants to play? I would like to see what the game is like in high difficulties and see those powerful enemies. I don't speak English, I'm using a translator, but I understand the basics.
Also the poison shots does drain your health fast. And there's this one time I somehow clipped into a semi, which it protects from any and all damage from the outside. Until I had used a grenade to get myself out from the semi.
