Gas Masks, how do they work?

I just can't figure them out. I have collected a bunch of gas mask schemes, but I can't figure out how to craft them. When I look at the crafting station I can only make basic clothes, but no useful things like gas masks. What am I doing wrong?

I didn't know you could craft gas masks...

I just equip a gas mask via profile and wear it all the time.

Gas masks are not craftable. You find them and then you can equip them in the "eye" slot in the clothes section of your profile.

Could be a little more clear on that. I've been collecting stuff and not knowing where it ended up. Thought I was gathering blueprints for it or something because there was no weight. Bah!

Anyway, gas masks suck so I probably won't use them after Skarven. xD

Until you upgrade your health and gas resistance in Skills, it's better to have the mask available. Lots of the bunkers have gas rooms that eat your health quickly, unless you have lots of advanced or standard health kits on hand. Military hunters also use gas launchers that can penetrate walls and barriers. FNIX tanks and Harvesters use a close range gas dispersal that REALLY eats your health fast.

Don't be too quick to dismiss something just because it's sorted in an unusual way.

It is the same as changing outfits, that you wear. But you wear the gas mask on your face.

also note that according to story, the gas is absorbed through the skin so the gas masks don't do a lot to protect you.

then whats the point of the gas mask? lol after i think like the 3rd gas filled bunker i just stopped using a gas mask and just ate health kits and it worked fine

They used to reduce the damage some, but a lot has changed with reduction changing and damage from gas going up and down. Right now I think the mask is cosmetic but feel free to test. Outside of the core missions you don't really run into any gas filled areas anyway.

Reduction of damage from those gasfilled rooms still works. 4dmg per tick without mask on and 2 dmg per tick with it equipped.

try standing next to a high tier harverster doing its gas attack.. ;)
