Solo player - best skills to get?
Wondering what the best, most useful, skills to get as a solo player?

I've in creased my stamina, and running speed as I want to get out of trouble as fast as I can. Increased component damage and ammo salvage. I'm coming up to level 17 and once I get there I'll have 3 points to spend.

Is the mechanic useful? It says you can scavenge more parts, but what parts do you get, anything new?

I'm guessing visibility and movement noise would be good ones as I seem to get detected a lot when I'm hiding in trees, bushes, behind walls?

Don't think the 'support' skills will be much use as playing solo, but is the throw accuracy any good - I'm a bit fed up with trying to throw flares and grenades through open doors and windows to have them fall at my feet, will that improve as my character seems to think I want to kill myself?

Haven't got many of the 'combat skills' yet as I tend to shoot and run or keep distance, but the weapon sway would probably be useful.

Anything you've got and found useless?

Thanks. G

I always tend to use the Marksman one for long distance sniping. Have found the hacker one to be useless.

Most of the capstones are useless especially in the current state of the game. Useful skills are extremely spread out. The right side of the combat tree is good. One point into every skill + the capstone then max out Armor. The third and fourth skill of the left side of the survival tree and the second skill from its right side are also nice. Definately get Component Damage and Lockpicking from the two rightmost trees. Should be 23 skillpoints in total. If you can get Inquisitive Mind early on as you'll need one level anyway.

I first maxed out the combat tree, then the survival one and am now maxing out the tech tree.

with level cap at 31 I should reach the hacker specialization just fine.

I think I made the right choices for solo play, machines are manageable.

For me it's hacker spec. Scroll down to section 7 in my guide if you want to learn more about it:

I can't say it has been totally useless, but I am close.
I've hacked a few Runners and about 1 or 2 Hunters. They usually did their job and attacked someone near them. I hacked 1 Harvester. All he did was look dazed and confused and walked away not shooting at other bots. But most of the time you don't even get to hack them. I wonder just how true the percentage of hacking is which I haven't tested. Such as if you see a hunter with a 25% chance of hacking, will you hack it on the 4th of 4 tries?

Hacking can be a bit buggy and slow sometimes but it can work for the most part if you learn how to use it. I have had some amazing results probably a bit more often than not.

I started thinking about hacking the other day and how it is a skill that only works x % of the time versus another skill like Marksman that will work 100% of the time by always giving you a steady shot.

Does marksman give you 1-hit 1-kill ability? How many less shots does it take to kill a tank for example with marksman?

At least hacker hacks seekers and runners most of the time and they end up getting destroyed or destroying another robot in groups. Hunters I'd say I hack about half the time and they are great for attacking other enemies. Tanks probably a bit less than 20% of the times I tried it.

Marksman is only described as “ No weapon sway.” You take aim, and the crosshair will not be moving all over the place. You get that perfect shot.

I haven’t heard at all about Marksman increasing damage. Only that it prevents your aim from moving around which would certainly help with snipping.

I never used that perk or ever had much sway problem without it, unless you're taking sniping at the greatest distances possible in the game and still register a hit. Enemies can't target you at that range unless they close distance first.

Just hold your breath. You can only get one specialization so make it count. Some of them need a massive buff though.

huh?
I thought you can get up to five specs (theoretically) but only one can be activated at a time.

Or you put two of them into other skills so they aren't inactive all the time. You also always pick up not so useful stuff on the way to a capstone.

yeah, I've also only Marksman unlocked yet (I'm level 25) but I'd like to get the Hacker at last.

I assume it's fun to play around with that spec when you're not necessarily depending on it.

My problem with Hacker is it's unreliable and gets me out of the flow of the game. You sit there with your binoculars, look for a target and hammer Q every time the cooldown is over and when it finally works the hacked bot refuses to engage and then you get automatically spotted.

The skill would be a lot better if the hacked bot was more agressive, you had a 100% success chance but also a massive cooldown. Giving away your position could be actually worth it then.
