Birdshot, buckshot and slug.

Hello !
I've been testing the shotgun again recently (I stated early game that shotguns were useless) and I'm still really mitigated about shotguns.
I'd say that I'm even more confused about the different types of ammos it uses and it's damage in game between how it is in real life...



Birdshot : made with a lot of little grains of lead, this is usually used to shoot birds and little preys as it sprays and makes a wall of lead in front of the cannon, this should be the weakest ammo type against something thick like a 2,5 meters hardened steel killing machine, but it oddly seems to be the one that does the most damage... Mostly close range.



Buckshot : made with between 6 to 12 (usually 9) balls of lead, this is usually used for bigger targets for up to a medium distance, and has some notable stopping power. It's supposed to do more damage than the birdshot, but in this game, it seems to do less. Am I wrong ?



Slugs : made from one big chunk of lead, this is used to shoot the bigger preys IRL (like boars) as it does a massive punch of damage, and has a really notable stopping power (still, it won't stop a 200kg boar charging at you, but it will surely bother him). Medium to "long" distance shooting.

The slug is by far the most disappointing ammo IG for the shotgun in my opinion... Maybe I did something wrong but it feels like it does the lowest damage to anything (whatever weakspots, armor or cars... yes you need 1 birdshot to blow up a car, but 8-10 slugs to do the same !).

What are you feelings about those different ammos ?
I hope I'm wrong and I did'nt properly used the shotgun when I tested it...
I tested it from close to medium distance. (1 to 50m)

I replaced shotgun with RPG and KVM 89 a while ago. Almost to level 30, and still haven't found a 5 star shotgun, but 4 star of both types. Never tried birdshot, and slug didn't seem to be anything special.

I mostly use RPG/P90 and an AG5 Prototype, before I get the AG5 I was using AI76 4 stars instead.
Sometimes I replace the AG5 by a KVM59...

I use the experimental pump a lot because it fires flechettes. Like you, I only get decent results when I use bird. My bro is an accomplished hunter (and former military competition shooter), so I asked him due to my similar confusion. Real and game seem far apart. Damage aside, the bird also reaches out the farthest in game. I think that's goobered too. On the plus side, it's great fun giving the Hunters some payback. Flechettes actually staggers them. I wish the semi-auto had the same flechette upgrade--better firing rate.

To me it almost seems like the 9mm FMJ from a Kpist is more effective than 7.62mm FMJ fired from an AG4. P90 feels like throwing candy floss at things, not even sure if they shoot anything at all.

I haven't really had a chance to try the semi-auto shotgun as I have not found anything higher than 1-crown (which is just rubbish).

Am I the only one?

Maybe I should try .32ACP on a FNIX tank... :P

I think the thing that makes bird shot so effective is that is is a lot easier to hit multiple components so you simply crit things to death.

♥♥♥♥, little mistake here, it's the AG4, it shoots burning bullets.
I was never using AG4 before because 20 bullets in the magazine felt too few. I found an AG4 magazine 5c just before looting the AG4E so I use it...

IMHO, Shotgun is only useful against ticks and runners. I don't even carry one anymore.

I'm running 5-star semi-auto shotgun and it's pretty nice, especially with buckshot. Shoots insanely fast and the reload isn't terrible either. Great for taking down tanks, if you have enough ammo.

Generally, one thing I like about the game is that most of the weapons are viable, so I'm switching between stuff all the time (and that keeps reminding me of how terrible the new UI is and how clueless the devs are, since they don't play their own game). Except for the hunting rifles and pistols in general.

I'll have to try it out again with the gold shotgun. I gave up on it awhile back when I was using lower quality weapons.

I mainly use the kapist, i use AG4 as backup when i run outta ammo

Its great against Hunters from behind as well.

How does that matter in relation to the top of ammo type?
