AI COMBAT BEHAVIOR
This has got to be the worst thing in the game; why is it that enemies always take the longest f*cking time to attack you??? Like I would kill a pack, wait literally 5 minutes, go and loot, and some f*cker jumps you literally straight outta nowhere. This is annoying and stupid.

If you don't want to be jumped, tone down the difficulty.

Have similar Problems. I was on a Farm, there was around 8-10 Robots. I Managed to Kill them, but whyle kill them new stronger Robots appear.

After i killed them too i thought ok, its over now, Plunder time and a bit Breath to Explore. Wrong i walked not more then 10 steps from the farm and another Pack of Robots Hunt me. I Managed to kill some and Escaped.

But another 10-20 Steps farer away i get attacked by another Pack of Robots and the ones i thought i left behind me Joins the Fight too. DEAD.

Thats far from Balanced and i would not call that like the Description from Scavangers Difficulty Rank Explained it: A "Balance" Between Exploring and Fighting. LOL

Next Problem is that this happens even with low level and you get attacked often from Packs that reachs from 5 up to 10+ where with the low level and Equip its Hard enough to fight more then 2 or 3 at a time.

I can Only Suggest you: Go to Adventurer Difficulty Rank. It helps a bit and after time you get better. But to be true this Game needs a lot more balance for the fights.

From videos I've watched that does happen a lot. On one level, it seems the A.I. is slow to react and attack. Then again, it seems to be a decent strategy by the A.I., as I often see players run right by something I'd have caught easily in the periphery of the viewscreen, and then get hit by the side. Those behind a bush, boulder, or tree are common to do this.

There is a case to be made that supposedly these robots are from WW2 vintage creation, so they might be slower to detect and engage than most.

As one who plays Dying Light a great deal, I find what I see in this videos are rather slow and a tad boring, but I can understand the idea from zombie movies. Generation Zero seems to entice players to move in and then get surrounded, as the A.I. does support others, call in helpers nearby, and so this "rope-a-dope" tactic seems to pay off.

It is actually one of the two main reasons I have not yet bought the game. Actually one of three reasons:

1) Slow to react enemy A.I. is odd to me, not sure if that would be fun or not.
2) Enemies seem to be bullet sponges in most videos online on YouTube, although there is customizable difficulty now.
3) Inventory UI seems to need some more loving and improvement.

Seems like a good game on sale, but I'm holding my powder dry because of those things above, which are highly noticeable to me. I mean I've played Deus Ex, System Shock 2, and lots of other slower almost Stealth Type games, and Generation Zero seems slower and more annoying, but solely based on videos I have watched. I think I'll like the gameplay later on, and the assault dogs and ticks do help to cause some fear, but I prefer not using that duality, as Dying Light already goes too far with that in the later versions with Virals making up for the slower movement of most other threats at high player levels.

If you can kill the ticks, they will explode, and it seems explosions of Generation Zero enemies are quite effective on damaging and killing their own. Another oddity that I don't really love, but seems part of the game's gestalt at the moment. I watched a video with big mechs lawying tick or spider eggs, and blowing them up as they basically sat dormant for a couple of seconds under the feet of their mothers -- which to me adds up to less than cool. But delayed enemy acquisition by the A.I. does seem a big part of the DEFAULT game. Maybe check customization options for difficulty.

You have the music to tell you if you killed entire pack. If the music is still on, be aware there still might be some enemies left.

A twist on 'delayed' response: Hunter packs seem to drop one off whose job is to sit perfectly still nearby until you blunder out to loot. I repeatedly fall for that.

The Ai got a tweak and got smarter... some doggos run away and wait.. some bots flank others come straight... its a robopocalypse... they communicate... they call for help... they tell others where u are ... expect to be constantly hammered they want you dead... ps check your difficulty as well now.. if you cant do normal dont go hard its chaos...
