The story is great, and it doesn't feel pushed upon you. You can at any point do what ever you like, you don't have to do this or that.
The updates as well has so far adressed a lot of issues and much more to come. I don't think anyone would be disappointed picking this up, it's a different game for sure, so I understand the confusion from reviewers and such!
To answer OP, they should have released it in early access, way too many bugs and glitches for comfort.
The fact that I have 38 hours in Generation Zero will confirm that the game works, is fun and has content in it. Just because I've put over 600 hours into Euro Truck Simulator 2 doesn't mean anything else than the fact that I like repetitive games and story related games.
Also, Generation Zero isn't about walking, it's about uncovering a mysterious story about what happened. GenZ has stealth, an extensive skill tree, a lot of weapons in several different grades ranging from Dilapidated, to Worn, Good, Exceptional and Special. Generation Zero has more content than you're aware of, not only is the map huge, but in 8 out of 10 cases every bulding can be entered. There's also a huge selection of Side Quests and Main Quests, along of various things to discover a long the way.
Judging from your profile you've put over 400 hours into Fallout 4, Generation Zero is very close to being just like that game. Just a less buggy studio to be fair.
I understand your concerns about the game, it has flaws, but every game has flaws. And so far Avalanche has been adressing some issues, and they're currently working on fixing even more. Making a game and working on it is a process, a game will go through a lot of changes and eventually Generation Zero can satisfy you, I hope. This game has gone through both private and open beta's, so there's been tests. But to adress the bugs, I've had close to zero bug encounter, other than a few crashes. Everything else seems to work really well.
I'm not saying that people shouldn't like repetitive games, but a lot of people went into GZ thinking it was going to be the tits, many of whom were greatly disappointed.
I've looked into the skill trees, character customization, etc. The weapon grades kind of rubs me the wrong way, but I won't comment on the other points you made because I cannot play the game. Most of my time in GZ has been troubleshooting it, and I've already been in contact with some of the devs over it, however, I haven't gotten anything back from a small conversation.
I wouldn't really compare GZ to FO4 since FO4 had much more than GZ appears to have. GZ has much more in relation to FO76 than FO4, since there aren't any npcs that I've seen.
I have been through the game making process, unfortunately, and I call upon that exp to say they should have released it in early access. There are lots and lots of bugs, both their steam and private forums, as well as their discord, are full of users having bugs.
Keep in mind that only 47% of the reviews for this game are good, the other 53% are negative, so it looks like a fair amount of people are unhappy.
If it was Early Access, it would be marked on the store page.
Since it's not marked on the store page, it's obviously not Early Access.
Whether it should be or not is another question, but it sure sounds like you're taking a passive-aggressive jab at the devs.
Seriously? That's what you're going with? That's exactly what you were doing.
You basically said "Clearly you like to waste time in boring games, so it's no surprise you'd like this one. Given this, your opinion of this game is irrelevant, as your taste in games obviously sucks."
Don't go insulting someone and then turn around and act like the victim when they get defensive.
it is supposed to be, but i guess they got pushed by someone to publish the game, or they just got boored to work on it so they throwed it out and hoped that nobody would notice the 1000's of bugs and the half finished stuff.
I understand that copy pasteing buildings and cars on random places can't be fun, and then going into all of them buildings and cars to see if it works. Probly nobody would do that except the one's that bought the game and hope that something exciting is in one of those houses or cars, witch it never is.
I can agree with this. GZ has so much potential and had it been released as an early access title, maybe the backlash from some would have been a little less 'pitchforks and torches'. Then again, I've seen the state of some early access discussion boards and there is not a great deal different there.
I wasn't trying to be rude, I simply replied to what's above, saying that my argument for playing game doesn't hold because I play linear games isn't relevant at all. Sure, I could've changed my reply to something else. But I really wasn't trying to be rude, I simply defended myself cause you made my comment about the game sound irrelevant and pointless, just because I play Euro Truck Simulator 2... Why would I put 38 hours into a game that's bad? If I have more than 5 hours in a game, it's good, for me and a lot of others. And some, not so much.
It's great that you were able to play Fallout 4 without a hitch, me and many others have had many issues with the game. Just like you and many others have issues with this one, not all issues are universal. Some have more than others, and some don't have issues at all.
It's not that GZ doesn't have content or anything to do, you just gotta get past the starting area. Once you do that you'll find tons of quests to do, I know that you're unable to play the game and explore this. But I can assure you that GZ has content, sure, not as much as Fallout 4, cause no studio can beat the amount of quests a Bethesda game has.
The reason for GZ not having any NPC's, at least not yet since I'm not that far. Is because that's the whole mystery about the game. Without spoiling it too much, you're there to figure out what and why this has happened. There's the defending point for GZ not having any NPC's, it's not that they were lazy like Fallout 76, it's because that's the story they wanted to write.
Now unfortunately a lot of people are experiencing bugs with this game, I've read tons of them and I've tried to help those I can. But since I haven't run into any major bugs I can't really help them fix something that works for me. Other than verifying the game chache, make sure you meet the requirements and do a PC restart.
I can't sugarcoat the game, it has issues, everyone is aware of them. But the game works like a charm for me, and I think it's worth getting. I simply can't tell someone to stay away from a game, just because he or she may get the same issues like some others. But if it's just a broken mess, Steam has a safety net for that. But only they can grant your request.
Again, I really wasn't trying to be rude, so I apologize if I came off that way. Hopefully your issues get solved in the future, until then, happy gaming!
