I've run into multiple crashes/freezes every time I join my friend and have to keep restarting to get that lucky instance of being able to play for 1-2 hours without my friend crashing. They seem to crash from using the Object-Pen vision scanner for their scope on the hunting rifle every time, and they can't select their 3-star Moller handgun unless they drop it and pick it back up.
I've also probably seen some graphical tears (like missing pieces of land) while running around a bit, and also noticed plenty of objects being stuck into the ground and/or floating in mid-air so it just seems off and breaks immersion at times (or gets you stuck if your friend pushes you into the poorly placed decorations).
The game's inventory system is really really basic and somewhat clunky (ammo not intuitively stacking if you have it equipped in your primary/secondary weapons [same goes for hotbar items]). You can't switch items from hotbar if you drag from hotbar to inventory space, so you can only drag items from inventory space to hotbar to switch items around. No form of sorting available so have to do it all manually. Many ammunition uses the same picture so you have to hover over them to know what each type is (it's nice they color coded and/or made them different based on calibers, but if you have 2-3 types of ammo for a single ammo, headache).
Deleted a second character and my first character lost all their items/levels/clothing (invisible body model). Managed to fix by selecting the first character, manually continuing it (since you selecting the character will automatically start the game), leave the game, then press continue for your items/etc to load back in (it almost made me quit lol).
Doors only opening one-way and running into a corridor with multiple doors can lead to a maze/disaster when playing co-op.
Waypoints/checkpoints on map disappearing altogether and making it seem as though you did not unlock them. Playing it through for an hour and reloading it later only to find out those waypoints (and other waypoints) were already unlocked, just bugged so the game showed as if I didn't unlock the safehouses/locations.
Waypoints/checkpoints on map sometimes unclickable if player is right in the same location. Sometimes it lets you keep the dropdown, sometimes it never keeps the dropdown after you move the cursor to select to track/teleport to a waypoint.
Copy-pasting of same exact shacks/barns/houses with maybe a few variations throughout majority of the land. Some obviously don't seem to stand out (like the bunkers), but you will run probably run into A LOT of reused assets (in an already empty world).
AI behavior seems to sometimes work, sometimes they get confused and just walk by you as you're shooting them guns blazing. Had a giant walker (forgot the name) with the rocket pods/autocannon just walk away from me constantly as I'm shooting without even bothering to aim/deter me, allowed me to rocket it a few times as well. Sometimes a single shot with a soft-point bullet from a hunting rifle at the energy core (those cylinder canisters) one-shots even the biggest robots.
Inconsistent fall damage. Sometimes jumping off a ledge I lose maybe 10 hp, same ledge (or about the same height) I sometimes lose 50+ hp. Sometimes I die. It's a hit or miss.
Plenty of instances with items/loot being placed with no playtesting (which is evident) with objects/decorations getting in the way. For example, had an open shelf in one of the houses with a simple medkit on its middle compartment, have to jump to even be able to interact with it (tried every angle, we thought it was a quest item at first so that's why we kept trying). In the end, had to jump and HOLD E a few times to get it.
Some odd 'holes' in the unit collision on the map design. Sometimes would get stuck and be unable to get out no matter what you do. For instance, the pews (long church chairs), if you happen to jump in between them and get unlucky (since loot is also there sometimes), you will get stuck. Also had an instance inside a container unit where I was looting, and tried to move after but was stuck by something invisible.
When a game is bad or unfinished, it is never an oversight by the developers; they knew how buggy the game was, (they're smart people) they knew they just copy and pasted assets into a Call of the Wild map and added a few bits and pieces. They could have released the game as early access with a lower price point but... they'd have made fewer initial sales, at a lower price and would have been forced to produce something under public scrutiny or run the risk of it flopping entirely.
Every pre order, every cry of: "I actually really like this, don't listen to the haters" guarantees the legacy and continuation of minimal viable product games, games as a service etc where we the consumers are treated to drip fed cut content, minimal bug fixing (how common is it now to see games with game breaking, 6 month old bugs releasing their first/next expansion), asset flipping etc. So cheers for that.
Generation Zero is nothing more than a glorified Call of the Wild mod. Take a look at other overhaul mods for various games (think Skyrim's Enderal, or Mount and Blade's Game of the Thrones mod) then think about this.
