Also, different gas masks all have the same view obstruction and resistance to gas. Only thing that changes is their appearance (e.g green or black with tinted lenses).
Back in the day when GZ launched, almost all clothing items gave you some kind of resistance (gas, explosive, bullet, noise reduction, visibility reduction). Some time afterwards, clothing stats where changed where only few items give you minimal resistance. Stats were changed accordingly in Profile view and during pick up view as well, except some oversights (like the gas mask you picked up, which shows old stats).
Before the dmg reduction of gased areas, there were some areas with gas that had far higher HP drop per second. I found few with 5 HP loss per second and one with 20 HP loss per second. The latter was extremely hard. I barely managed to run in, pick up the mission critical item and run out while constantly healing myself with 50HP first aid kits.
That was a nice challenge. Sadly, that area now has the common 1HP drop per second like every other gased area.
