Also, without any icons, it is possible to do quests just fine. Only the time to look for quest items increases (read mission info from Log, that helps much).
When i completed my game way back, there were no spoon feeding icons to say: go through that door or pick up this item. Had to use my brain and think for myself to get the missions done, which i loved.
I read all logs and mission objectives, and using your brain isn't of much help when the objective is 'find documents in the bunker' and you've ran through the bunker 5 times already.
Sure I can hug every single table, wall, desk, chair, box and other object that may or may not hold the needed item, but that is no fun, especially seeing as the rooms don't really stand out from one another.
Given that you're still in Archipelago region or just out of it with your missions, i'm not going to tell which are the three most extensive bunkers in game, where it is very easy to loose your direction and get lost. It did happen to me when i started with GZ though. Now, i've memorized all bunker layouts and don't get lost in them.
