I´ll wait for the first discussions after release...
Is it worth the money? That's something for others to decide for themselves but in my opinion paying 10 extra dollars isn't that bad.
Did you play Planet Coaster? Fantastic game. I expect this game to be a rebooted Zoo Tycoon 2. Planet Coaster was a rebooted Rollercoaster Tycoon 3. I'm very excited.
TLDR: It's your choice as a consumer, don't go complaining with the devs if you want to have your cake and eat it too.
You are thinking of an open beta which is a specific type of beta testing. Beta tests don't have to be open to be beta tests. Back in the day when you bought an actual copy of the game beta tests wouldn't be open to everyone; instead, developers would select a group of people to play their game so they could find any glitches and bugs they might have missed themselves.
There's no rules that determine how this group of people should be selected (completely open or hand-picked) so personally I feel paying for this privilege is quite fair. Those who care about playing it as soon as possible can pay for that privilege, those who just want to play it can wait for full release. Additionally, this way it is open to anyone, rather than to a select few reporters or friends of developers. Anyone can take part in the beta, while the developer gets some extra money from those who want to take part.
Well, of course, I played both and enjoyed Planet Coaster a lot - and that´s the reason why I was so disappointed when I played Jurassic World (had preordered Deluxe, played the betas and the release and refunded). Planet Coaster was so much better and made with so much more love compared to JW
