Wath Animal heavy DLC shoud be my first?

grasslands has 7 + 5 butterflies(walkthrough exhibits are worthless without dlc animals). south east asia, north american, wetlands, arid, eurasia each have 8. i'm biased and would say if you're picking one go with wetlands for the platypus but you might want to just go look at a list of each dlc's animals or check the ones i listed to pick your favorite collection if just wanting to maximize available animals.

I agree with Meewec; take a look at each one and go with the one with the animals you really want. However, the walk through exhibit is not worthless without the dlc animals. There are various uses for it including as an invisible shelter placed in a habitat. This works well particularly in franchise when you want to do a natural looking habitat, say for Savannah animals, and do not want the looks of constructed shelters.

I'm mostly a builder in the game so I don't really get into which animal packs are better but...
The newer packs tend to have better animal skins and animations than the older packs and since the twilight pack we begin getting species for the walk through exhibits. so newer equals better products but older goes on sale at really good prices.
In the end it does come down to reading the dlc details and selecting the ones that seem like something the player will have interest in.

This Wiki page shows a list of animals (habitat and exhibit) for each DLC. Ignore where it says scenery pack and animal pack as they both show the animals. Just click on the DLC and you can see the list of animals for that DLC. I assume it is current.

Here's my plug for getting butterflies: they will give you all the money (or CC in challenges). Put about 10 in and let time go, autosell them for up to 13K per year. That doesn't sound like much but you can have all types of butterflies together in just one walkthrough exhibit, up to 90 of each type, and you can manually sell them the instant they're born. Only issue is you can't easily make the autosell ignore gold rated butterflies to make more money.
