Sandbox also lets you get many of the achievements that aren't mode-specific, but not all of them. The one that requires researching all animals, Zoologist, for example, cannot be achieved in sandbox mode.
I'm honestly not sure which specific other ones (besides the franchise specific ones) that can't be done in sandbox mode, but I don't believe it is very many of them.
I started the game doing all the career scenarios and only had a handful left once those where done, which I knocked out in Franchise mode.
Thanks for the reply. I'd rather go through career mode than franchise as I find franchise mode really boring.
These 4 require Franchise mode:
Open your first Franchise zoo
Open 25 Franchise zoos
Take part in a community challenge
Complete the research on one animal in Franchise mode
At least some of these might require Franchise, but I'm not sure. That's where I did them.
Open a zoo on every continent
Open a zoo in every biome
I think these can be done in any mode (but really not sure about Sandbox for the first one)
Achieve an Education Rating of 5 Stars
Have at least 3 Keepers, each with a different roster
Have two different breeds of Elephant born in your Zoo
It was easy to go back to get the above information because i did literally no other game modes until I finished career mode, so based on the Date/time I achieved them I know which mode I did them in. I did all of them listed in Franchise mode, personally.
I think the education rating can only be done in franchise and career because I've definitely had 5 star education in sandbox and never unlocked it. The two different elephant breeds works in sandbox though. and opening a zoo on every continent and biome is definitely only for franchise
Achievements are also called "trophies" on some gaming platforms. The point of them is pretty much the same as that for any other trophy. Something to show "Hey, I did that" and convey a sense of accomplishment.
Granted, most games have a whole lot of stupidly easy achievements. But if you manage to get ALL trophies for a game, it generally means you have a high level of mastery of that game and some gamers take pride in that.
We all play games for different reasons. Achievements/trophies are actually the main thing some gamers play a game for...they get 100% of the trophies, and then move on to the next game. There are games that take a ridiculous amount of time, commitment and skill for 100%.
Now if by "the point" you mean an actual utilitarian purpose...there is none.
I generally don't care either way about them, personally. But for a game that I play a LOT...I do go for 100% for the sense of accomplishments.
It is why I'm playing all the career scenarios a 2nd time right now...to get those Hard Difficulty achievements that were added to Planet Zoo after I'd already completed all of the career scenarios. They are all I need for 100% achievements.
I'm on the last scenerio right now and already got bronze and silver...so nearly there. I hope they fix my franchise mode crashing bug before I finish.
How much harder are scenarios on hard mode would you say?
Just mho, but probably not really much harder at all. There's not much difference between "hard" and "normal" difficulty unless you are out and out trying to do a poor job of managing your zoo, imo.
If I had to guess, I'd say the worst part on hard is that the scenerios that have animal welfare or visitor happiness objectives will just take a little more time.
That being said, I have literally NO idea for sure how much easier it is not to do them on hard, because technically I've now done them on hard twice; What is named"Hard" difficulty right now is how the game just worked back at release. The only (slight) difference being that ticket refunds didn't exist back then.
i'd like to try a couple of the pre-made signs but don't want to ruin my chance for achievements. thanks!
Interestingly much as I HATE the timed scenarios with every fiber of my being, I wanted all the gold statues, so I've played them all to gold - I learned a LOT of tricks that then helped me breeze through the hard mode on career.
That said the other major factor - are you just playing for achievements or for fun? Hard is harder when you want to actually put effort into your zoo and how it looks, but if just going for achievements, don't worry about appearance and keep it all basic and streamlined.
As others have noted only a few achievements require you to play in franchise (don't like that mode myself). I got all my other achievements in career. I didn't try in sandbox as I assumed they wouldn't work, but others are saying they do, so guess you could do that, or you can just play through career mode - you'll achieve most that way as you need to play them all on hard for all achievements anyway.
