For more docile species, there is a tab in the Zoopedia menu, the farthest to the right on the top, which shows if animals can be housed with others, and if they get an Interspecies Bonus from it. For instance, the Bairds Tapir, Capybara and Caphuchin Monkey get a welfare bonus from living together.
You can house some species together that are not listed in that section as long as they are not predators. Flamingos and Peacocks could be placed in the same habitat as a deer or antelope without any problems.
Like, European Fallow Deer can be kept with European Badgers. The badgers are not dangerous to the deer. Okapi can be kept with Bongo, etc.
but you can't keep Lions and Leopards together, or Bears and Wolves. The big predators in general need to be kept alone unless the Zoopedia tells you otherwise
