animals can walk through walls??
I made a lynx habitat in my new sandbox zoo and I thought it was just a visual bug since a walkable escape spot was appearing at the barrier. I tried raising the barrier, changing the material, rebuilding it, and nothing works. Then, one of the lynxes in the habitat just... walked through it. Lucky I wasn't on franchise mode. what do i even do about it? build some rocks around it? is there a fix??

A screenshot might help answer your question. In the meanwhile, check for climbable objects near the barrier both inside and outside the wall.

posted screenshots. Checked for climable objects, the ones I found nearby are still further away from the barrier than others that don't mark as escape spots
Did you see it walking through the wall actually? Spooky... ;)

According to th screenshots I would say it's the tree nearby that it can climb and this way get outside the barrier. Have you tried moving it a bit further awy from the barrier?

yeah, tried. It's not the tree. They just walk straight through... idk maybe frontier just added ghost for spooky month /j
If you look at the tree next to the escape marker you will see green lines in the heatmap where the animal can navigate. There is one that appears to go right up to and perhaps over the barrier.
Also check that enrichment items are not close to the barrier.

posted screenshots with all nearby trees deleted, no enrichment nearby other than the water tap. they can still walk through the barrier

I've seen this bug when watching a youtuber. They had to move the barrier then move it back to fix it. The other fix was to send all animals to trade center then put them back in the habitat.

You're welcome. :)
It happened a lot a long time ago, and was supposed to have been patched. If it was I don't really know, because in the Sandbox Escapes can be turned off and I assume walking through a wall is an escape!
But yes, the cats can climb and jump an unbelievable height and distance, even without a run up.
I have this walking through walls happen pretty frequently. With peafowls almost for sure in every zoo for the last three month or so. Moving the barrier doesn't help, but it is not a major problem either. The peafowl would walk straight through the wall, stays a bit outside und sneaks back after a few seconds. I do get the alarm, but it stops after the animal is back. Happened with a pallascat in my latest zoo as well. The animals seem to have no intention to run away, they just do their scripted moves.
Edit: The walls mentioned are barriers, they are high enough, the habitat shows no escape points and I have actually seen the described prozess several times.

If it is just one area, you might try thin terrain bars. I have found that terrain stops the animations. Or, I have just been lucky. :)
As we we know, animations trump barriers every time. So we have to ask, what is causing what animation in the area where the pass through is occurring? Is the barrier shaped oddly? Is the an enrichment or feeder object near by? Is there some scenery object in the way? Is there enough room for the animals to traverse and turn around? Is the terrain itself influencing the escape?
These days I can't remember an escape that wasn't caused by one of those factors but I also rarely use anything but null barriers and custom fences or walls for habitats.

But of course, All this could check out okay and the game just fudging things up a bit...
4 scenarios that I know of:

- You do sometimes see spikes in the accessible area for an animal, that goes right up to the barrier and they do sometimes see to be able to escape at that point - a shrub or tree at that point shrinks the area which seems to work

- Similarly penguins seem to be able to swim straight through chain link fences - again, line the fences with greenery and make sure they can't reach the fence

- I've also seen a tiger walk through a barrier with a glass window - that was where the ground inside the enclosure was higher than the bottom of the glass

- And the one that still gets me: check the accessible area for young animals that can get closer to barriers than the adults. If they mature when next to the barrier, they can magically appear as an adult on the wrong side of the barrier. :steamhappy:
Again greenery helps prevent them getting near the fence in the first place
