African Spurred Tortoise MISTAKE!

So Im watching this poor animal trying desperately to reach its sleep hut and because their required habitat size is 2000+. He has quite a ways to go.. I feel really sorry for this pixel animal.. PZ really screwed the pooch here.. The tortoise is just barely over the size of the Giant Frog which could have easily been an exhibit animal or the walkthrough. Given that this animal is SOOO small, I don't think its necessary to make its habitat requirements so vast. And listening to his huffy sound, I'm tired for him!.. Come on PZ... wheres the common sense here? Maybe redesign the tortoise requirements OR make him a walkthrough exhibit and give us a different habitat animal to replace him and NOT ANOTHER PRIMATE.. There's TONS to choose from!!!!

I have not used that species either but, I agree, it sounds like too large an area for being in a game. In the meantime, maybe build some scattered shelters for them.

I ended up doing that.. I felt so sorry for the poor animal.

I don't know how you came up with the number 2000+. However, around 300 are enough for the turtle enclosure.

In the Zoopedia it says minimum requirement is 2314ft. And to edit my previous statement, the tortoise is too big for a normal Exhibit, but I stand by the Walkthrough or Requirement change.

I had them in a zoo and there was no problem. They were fine with their enclosure, which was not huge at all. I can not remember the exact size, but it was like the other turtle enclosures I had before.

2314 square feet is like 215 square meters. Or 10 x 21.5 meters.

I wish I could show you why I am having trouble.. It's actually from the new scenario with Zookeeper Researched. When I click on a tortoise (theres only 4 at the time) it literally says 2314sqft on its zoopedia. And when you look at its transversable land, it states that the 2000sqft (ish) land it's in with the 4 others is TOO SMALL, barely in the "green". That would mean, 200 x 5 = 1000 sqft should be big enough but it is not.

I see what you are saying. Here is what I think is happening. Everything in the habitat and the barriers have a small buffer area around them that is deducted from the area defined by the barrier walls. So all those rocks deduct from the total of your habitat as does the small area along the barriers. We can see this in the heatmaps, especially for the larger animals. We must take that into account when planning the habitats. For small species It's wise to add 10 to 15 percent on to the estimated area required. Larger species might need an extra 20 percent.

I know all that, Im talking about AFTER placing them.. I think its just a small bug in the patch.

I have placed three burrows in equal space apart so they dont have to travel as far.

All the tortoises have TINY requirements. That said, you're not terribly wrong. Mine are always hungry, even when I have lots of food enrichment everywhere and they are full. The buggers are just so bloody slow.

They are wonderful starters because of how long they live, but they do annoy me for their slowness, when it shouldn't be an issue when they are hungry.

I have out 2 African spurred tortoises share a habitat with my ♥♥♥ ♥♥♥'s who are willing to give the tortoises a lift to the sleeping area every now and then. But other than that, I feel sorry for the little buggers too and wish we had some sort of conveyersbelt enrichment item for all tortoises and the sloths.
