Zoo crashes upon loading
Like the title says. I have to start new zoos all the time, because after some time playing the zoos just won't load again.
I don't know what causes this.
I have 16gb NVIDIA quatro P5000
Intel i9-13900
Kingston furybeast D5 64gb RAM
So I can't imagine it's my computer.
No mods.
All DLC

Let's look at basic upkeep first.
You have updated all system drivers and widows, yes?
Have you checked for bios updates lately?
Is windows swap file set automatic?
Have you checked memory for errors lately?
How large are the zoos?
When loading the zoos, does the game crash to desktop or just seem to stop responding?

Are you saving over an old save? If yes, sometimes a saved file becomes corrupted. I always delete the old save and save a new save file in all my games not just Planet Zoo.

P.S. Are you using mods?

Thank you for this response! Sorry it took a while.

Yes to the first four. Everything is updated, no errors.
Sizes of the zoos vary. My first had about 200 animals, second 80 and the third crashed before I could even add animals.
The game crashes to the desktop.

No mods, see post.
I did use all new saves with my latest zoo, but that one crashed before I could add animals.

This has been happening since my first zoo, so that can't be it. I've only had the game for a short while and build three zoos in total.

And everything else on your PC works as it should? Other games for example?

Be sure to check for bios updates this month, that cpu is one that has the voltage defect.
Assuming windows 11, right? Have you checked the settings in windows for standby and hard drive standby? windows 11 is seeming to have some issues with that and certain apps.
But do recheck microsoft redistributable sets for update/repair. They are found in apps.

Thanks I have checked all the microsoft redistributables and hard drive standby. I hope it works!
Also I didn't know about the voltage defect. Thankfully no issues here!

If that happens again, try verifying files on steam, worked for me when my sandbox save kept crashing almost immidietly after loading in :praisesun:

It's bit more than just a defect in the chip. It has to do with how the motherboards read the chips and set load levels in the chip and how the chip responds to those settings. As chips get overclocked, either automatically or by the user, the chances of permanent damage to the chip increase. The symptoms of this are general instability under load. So games that push even a single core of the chip to heavy load may experience game crashes to full system lock ups to Blue screen of death. As odd as it sounds, the better the rig the worse the issue...

One never knows just what can cause unexpected problems. My son's PC started to randomly blackscreen, but sounds continued. He had not had the graphics card long, so it could not have been that, could it?
But he then bought a new PC from the same place as the GPU and stuck the card in that. Same problem. He had an all inclusive trouble shooting cover with the new PC, including sorting out anything later fitted. So, to cut a long story short (after running many tests as recommended by the builders) it was eventually returned to base.)
The GPU was faulty from new, but thankfully still under guarantee, so was replaced. Problem sorted. (I will not go into about the PC builders dropping the returned PC and having to rebuild it in a new case!)
