You can't deactivate them, but you can have a zoo without the exhibit animals (where spiders will be found), so you never have to look at them or see a picture of them.

Spiders can be in exhibits and there is at least one decoration piece in the silhouette of a spider. I think it would be difficult to disable those without seeing them. There are filters for decoration and animals, but the default is to show everything.
It sucks having such a severe phobia, sorry!

I feel the same about snakes. I've never used them. As moorwiesen mentioned, as long as you don't buy one you'll never see them or a picture of them.

HMM ABOUT THAT SPIDER PHOBIA
SOME ANIMALS IN THE REAL WORLD ARE AFRAID OF SPIDERS BUT MOST ARENT
YOU CAN GUESS THAT CHIMPS AND GORILLAS CAN BE SCARED OF THEM.

thanks for all the answers. I will try it. Dont think a silhouette will scare me. Will not buy the spider related dlc either so hope it will work.

You will probably see a small thumbnail of a spider at some point if you want to play the career mode. You are required to go to the exhibit market and there are spiders in it.

Just a bit more info, building on what moorwiesen said, the only way you won't see a picture of a spider is by not opening the Exhibit menu - which would also mean no frogs, newts or (with DLC) bats, butterflies, terrapins or axolotls. What hasn't been made clear is the impact that will have on your game.

Building Exhibits is often an objective in the scenarios section of the game (which doubles as the tutorial levels), so that entire section of the game would be no go as you would have to open the Exhibit menu to progress.

Exhibits are a very cost effective way of starting your zoo in Franchise mode, where money management is key. This would make starting a zoo much tougher (Franchise is kind of a 'career' mode version of the game)

Which would leave you really with just the Sandbox mode where the only consequence would be the reduction in building options for you. Its still a great way to experience the game, but just be aware that of what you're missing out on before getting involved.

One other thing - visitors can buy a variety of large costume hats from merchandise stores which they wear while walking around your zoo - one of these is a 'spider hat' - though on this occasion, you can remove these items from sale once you build the hat shop.

Or if you want a specific exhibit animal, type that animal's name in the search bar of the zoopedia, then click on it, since there are no spiders that start with an a. You would never see them then!

There's no need to have exhibits if you don't want to. I rarely bother with them. But if you do have them, and many many habitats, you will be so busy you may never see what's in the exhibits! In fact the creatures in them are often so small they are hard to see anyway! But as the above post says, by default the creatures in the exhibit market place are alphabetical, and there are a lot of them. But they are listed by species actual name, not just Spider etc.

Without any DLC, alphabetical listings would go:

Amazonian Centipede
Boa Constrictor
Brazilian Spider

I couldn't give the OP a guarantee that they would never be greeted with a thumbnail of a spider on the first page.

Well, the best I can say is that Planet Zoo is just a game. No matter what kind of dreams and nightmares it induces. But seriously, we do need to have a little perspective that things are presented in a not too scary fashion.

Some phobias can be very extreme and often irrational. I know of a person who cannot look at similar sized holes in a line, even as just a picture. Some people break out in to rigid cold sweat. Myself, I have a fear of tigers. But not if they are behind bars.
Jendowoz Mar 18, 2023 @ 4:48pm
There again it may help your phobia, when you know they are harmless in this form. Gradual exposure could help, but I have no phobias, so can't speak about how it affects people.
SpyGRNtiger2021 Mar 18, 2023 @ 7:26pm
I don't mind taking all your spider & snakes & the tigers for free :steamhappy:

But to try & help you - you can filter what exhibit critters that you want available. I think there are about 4 spiders in the zoo right now? Two Brazilian spiders, goliath birdeater, and the Mexican red knee, so filter those out and you wont see them for sale.
I personally love spiders and snakes, literally my favorite animals, but if you want simply don't put them in your zoo.
