In a real zoo everything also comes down to patience, which pairs fit together and which zoo has the right male or female available for the breeding program.
Whether you go for the sandbox, franchise or challenge after this, the basics remain the same and you can only benefit from it.
Personally, I release all albinos into the wild because I think they are ugly beasts and one of the things the developers could have left out for me.
Only thing to note is that the animal list for trade is paged. This isn't immediately apparent as it's got really long pages, but you do actually have a "Next" button at the bottom there, and until this one most scenarios have fit onto one page.
