If you try to jump in and play other game modes without doing that though....yep, it's going to be a struggle.
The career scenarios as a whole gradually introduce game concepts until you've covered all of them by the last scenario....but it's a really time consuming way to learn the game. I was at over 100 hours played by the time I finished them all. For that reason, I don't disagree with your criticism.
To un-stress the aardvarks use 2 way glass so they aren't aware of people watching them. A few animals are like that and they are one. IF you're in career or franchise mode they need to be researched first. Just research "barriers" until you get them. In the mean time give them a shelter that's far enough away from guests that they don't get bothered by it.
The first 3 scenarios are tutorials so it can help you learn how to do things like placing power down and many other things. AND you can always ask here. Everyone is more than happy to help you out.
Actually, you want one-way glass, not two-way glass. Using two-way glass allows the aardvarks to see out and know they're being watched. One-way glass allows visitors to see in but the aardvarks can't see out.
Also worth mentioning that the "Do Not Disturb" signs do help a little. Not nearly as much as one-way glass, but they minimize the issue to some degree and are useful for super busy habitats as well as when you haven't gotten that one-way glass researched yet.
Another thing that helps is giving the animals more 'cover' in their habitat. By cover, I don't necessarily mean shelter. Anything that breaks visitor line of sight works. So even scenery, trees, rocks, stands of reeds, etc. all help.
I (stupidly) built a Greater Flamingo habitat right next to the main entrance of my current zoo, and I built it in a way that I one-way glass isn't a good option. Do Not Disturb signs and stands of reeds are the only things keeping the protestors away.
I thought Greater Flamingos were fine with guests?
You're welcome, and good to know about the "do not disturb" signs. I haven't tried those yet. I do know about the plants and trees and rocks. I use them as much as possible to hide transformers and such from guests' view, and yes, also to soothe the animals. I watch the welfare thing on their personal charts very carefully when creating habitats. I want happy and healthy animals. And I must be doing something right, because I have a major Capybara population explosion! It's impossible to keep up with them. They're worse than rabbits! I was adding memorial plaques when they died, but so many have died of old age that I just don't have the room or the time to fill them out and place them anymore.
You must go through the Tutorials to know what the animals want, this will help towards your protesters. You must of not done the Tutorial for some reason or skipped it. Taking care of your animals is number one and Tutorial explains that all and goes through it with you.
