Flying Lions xD
Guys how tall would a ledge without fence would have to be to keep lions from jumping off of it ? In zoopedia it says barrier rquiremnt is 3m tall I build a 3,9m ledge and they jump off of it even 6 meters below :O

Have you put anti-climbing barriers on the fence on the correct side (or just both sides). Cats can jump, but they can also climb so chances are they aren't jumping over but climbing over if you've not put the barriers up (they are on the fence tab when you're placing a fence

No i made a natural wall, like a ledge, so I wouldnt have to put up a barrier.
Its like the enclosure is on a rised ldegey they are trapped up on it and the path is below it.
I just thought if its going to be taller than 3m they wouldnt jump of off it. Ill make a span shot its too hard i cant explain it xDDDDDD

See the top sand part is where lions are meant to be trapped.
The middle rock part is where guest would walk.
And the bottom dirt part is where another enclosure would be.
I just wanted to avoid putting up fences.
But even tho it says in zoopedia fence has to be 3 m tall he would jump off of it ;p Even 6m below to the bottom part. So how tall would that ledge have to be or is there a workaround for that ?

Most animals can jump down quite a ways but jumping up is the barrier height.
Someone should do some testing to see how far each species can drop...

Probably a pretty long way, esp since any imperfection or blemish on the surface might give it just enough "nearly flat" surface to pause half way and then continue.

In general where you see those at real zoos its more of a moat design where the fence is still there and is in a depression so that its very short on the human side, but very tall on the animal side. The central core environment is then raised up for easy viewing.

Cba to do testing now ;p I just finished playing around with crocks for the underwater habitat with restaurant in it and the event was over by then ;p Ill wait maybe someone on the boards checked that already ;p

Yeah I was hoping I can avoid puttin gup bariers, see its going to be lion kings pride rock xD so I wanted a nice seamless view of that ;p

Tbh I cant even imagine how would a fat bastard like that lion not break his legs jump six meters down xD

This actually sounds like a really stupid and fun thing to test. Time to crack open a new sandbox zoo and make some animals jump off of some cliffs - ... FOR SCIENCE!

Let me know if you would like me to report the results of my findings.

I would! I might join you in this experiment-might be fun!
Irl, cats have fallen up to 30 feet at least, with minor injuries, sometimes a few stories from a building!

I'm almost done setting up the testing area- I have a bunch of platforms scaling from 1 meter to 6 meters. I might go higher if I get some animals willing to jump from 6M.
Varick Jan 18, 2022 @ 7:31am
The lion is jumping from a transversable to a transversable, yes?
audiolady Jan 18, 2022 @ 8:08am
Have you checked the heat map?
Kigut Jan 18, 2022 @ 8:14am
So from the testing I've done so far (I'm going in alphabetical order and I'm on the black wildebeest right now), the bengal tiger has been the only one to be able to jump from a 1M height, but 2M seemed to stop it.

This might be because of how I have the testing sight laid out. In the screenshot you provided, your cliff is made from terrain only, and therefor there will always be some sort of slope, no matter how slight.

In my testing area, I have a platform that the animals stand on with absolutely nothing underneath it to prevent animals from climbing down.

I bet the primate species would be willing to jump from higher up!

Lemur time, so far they ... Didn't jump from 1M? But they kind of... Fell? From 1M? Like they walked to the edge and just sort of clipped off onto the ground.

I'm trying to see if the lemur will do the same thing from 2M.

So far the most interesting thing I've discovered is that prairie dogs are weird.

Here's what I've documented:

Black-Tailed Prairie Dog-
The heatmap showed no means of escape and the prairie dog was unable to jump from 1M. It did dig a little hole in the sand though, which was pretty cute.

Or at least I thought it was, until I made the very strange discovery that the prairie dog can burrow holes underneath the platform even if it cannot reach the sediment. It burrowed beneath the platform. I continued to watch curiously to see if by burrowing underneath the platform it would find a way to escape without jumping.

I bought eight more prairie dogs to potentially increase the chances of it burrowing past the platform again. Some of them did manage to create burrows that had them standing beneath the platform, although once they were under there they could not move without either teleporting back on top of the platform or getting stuck and turning into a box, placing them back in front of the habitat gate.

In the end, all nine prairie dogs ended up passing away without ever passing the null barrier.
