After you download/unpack mod, under steam games list, right click Planet Zoo, then it is manage, browse local files, win64 and place the mod under the ovidata file.
Animal mods can only be played in Sandbox and be sure you have a current mod
version for the game.
Welcome to Planet Zoo :)
Thank you so much!! I did exactly what you said, and it seemed to work but then it crashed. So I'm not sure if maybe the mod wasn't compatible or? It was the right version, for the Przewalski's Horse, but I'm going to try removing it and using a different mod to see if that works instead ^^
Also, dyed animals are a thing??
Note: It doesn't crash until I go into the area to adopt animals and try to locate the animal from the mod. The animal shows up, but the icons for it stay blank. And then it crashes. I'm still unsure of the issue, gonna try doing it with a couple others to see if I can figure it out.
They also work in challenge mode
The mods go in the ovidata folder so when you open that folder you should see folders listed as Content0, Content1,Content2, ect.. If you are up to date on everything you should have 10 Content folders listed 0-8 and anniversary. So if you put the file for the bat ear fox inside the ovidata file you will have those content folders plus a folder listed as 'Foxbater' I believe. When your looking at mods to download on Nexus make sure that you are downloading mods listed as 1.8 unless you don't have a Content8 folder than you would use an older mod like ones listed as 1.7. The numbered folders will help you keep track.
Name an animal DaveyT#then 6 letters/numbers.
whatever you put in the 6 spots determines the color.
Like for purple-DaveyT#800080
Bet- 👀
Haven't seen a limit on mods so far, guess it's kinda trial and error, just keep an eye on how the game's running and see how many it can handle.
When you remove a mod and there are still animals of that kind in any storage (trade center/quarantine) the save will be corrupted and the game's gonna crash when you try to load it. The ones in the zoo should simply disappear afaik. Same goes for when I major game update hits: the files can become corrupted depending on what it changes so you should always make sure to remove the modded animals to be safe.
