Animal Mods from Nexus
First, thank you to the animal engineers in Nexus. It is great fun to consider adding this cool content into the game. I have just added a couple for the first time. I think I am doing something wrong and hope that someone can point me in the right direction. I think I have loaded the files correctly. The species show up in the market. I purchased a few and had them delivered to the zoo. When they got there, they look great except that their legs seem to extend into the ground. They run around, but I can't see their legs. It is almost like the 'Shift' key has been entered and the animals have sunk into the landscape. Any idea what I am doing wrong? Thank you.

Hmmm. Seems to be normal after I exit and log back into the game.

I wish I could have seen that!

Yeah, that is what will happen if you add mods that haven't been updated to work with the current game version...there's a reason why the version numbers are included in pretty much every mod title. Download only the ones with the right version and all is gonna work just fine.

I just started using steam and playing Planet Zoo and haven't been able to figure out how to get the installed mods from nexus onto planet zoo and so I was hoping someone might be able to explain it

After you download/unpack mod, under steam games list, right click Planet Zoo, then it is manage, browse local files, win64 and place the mod under the ovidata file.
Animal mods can only be played in Sandbox and be sure you have a current mod
version for the game.

Welcome to Planet Zoo :)

Thank you so much!! I did exactly what you said, and it seemed to work but then it crashed. So I'm not sure if maybe the mod wasn't compatible or? It was the right version, for the Przewalski's Horse, but I'm going to try removing it and using a different mod to see if that works instead ^^
Also, dyed animals are a thing??

I tried removing that first one (the horse) and downloaded one for a bat-eared fox, but when I tried putting that into the folder, it went above the ovidata file instead of under it so I'm not sure if that's a problem? But it did the same thing, seemed to work and then crashed.
Note: It doesn't crash until I go into the area to adopt animals and try to locate the animal from the mod. The animal shows up, but the icons for it stay blank. And then it crashes. I'm still unsure of the issue, gonna try doing it with a couple others to see if I can figure it out.

They also work in challenge mode

The mods go in the ovidata folder so when you open that folder you should see folders listed as Content0, Content1,Content2, ect.. If you are up to date on everything you should have 10 Content folders listed 0-8 and anniversary. So if you put the file for the bat ear fox inside the ovidata file you will have those content folders plus a folder listed as 'Foxbater' I believe. When your looking at mods to download on Nexus make sure that you are downloading mods listed as 1.8 unless you don't have a Content8 folder than you would use an older mod like ones listed as 1.7. The numbered folders will help you keep track.

Ohhhhhhh okay that makes sense then. I was trying to put the file directly under the ovidata one instead if in it 😅 I’ll retry with actually putting it inside the file lmao. Thank you so much for your help

Dyed animals are my specialty, since I learned the code for them.
Name an animal DaveyT#then 6 letters/numbers.
whatever you put in the 6 spots determines the color.
Like for purple-DaveyT#800080

Update: it worked!! Mods are now working, thank you so much for your help 🖤 I had one last question real quick- There’s a lot of animal mods, would it mess up the game at all if I had too many at once? Like for example, if I downloaded like 30 different animals and tried using all of them would that be okay? Or should I just use a few at a time? And also on that topic, if I used a mod to adopt an animal and then removed the mod, would the animal disappear or be messed up or no?

Haven't seen a limit on mods so far, guess it's kinda trial and error, just keep an eye on how the game's running and see how many it can handle.

When you remove a mod and there are still animals of that kind in any storage (trade center/quarantine) the save will be corrupted and the game's gonna crash when you try to load it. The ones in the zoo should simply disappear afaik. Same goes for when I major game update hits: the files can become corrupted depending on what it changes so you should always make sure to remove the modded animals to be safe.
