What can climb? How high? And how do you stop them?
I just started the Maple Leaf park scenario. I put some snow leopards in an enclosure, it was definitely big enough for both of them but they kept climbing out. I made the barrier 4m high and added the anti climbing thing but it made no difference, I didn't see how they did it because I was busy but I think the 2nd time they glitched out.

I was caught off guard by this. I didn't see anything in the Zoopedia about snow leopards being able to climb, let alone how high. I tried using what I learned on the 2nd tutorial but it did no good.

How can you tell which animals can climb and have a climbing need before you buy them?
How high does the barrier need to be to stop them?

You must use your Zoopedia. Go to the animal info, and top middle screen of the zoopedia page you have 6 tabs available.
The first one is the general info of the animal, then the second contain the informations you are looking for (fence level needed, and the the height)
If the animal needs some anti-climbing, it will be right there too with the fence level informations.

In the tab I adressed up there, for snow leopard it clearely state that you need an anti-climbing fence of lvl2 and > 3 meters.
Also make sure you actually add the anti-climbing of the correct side of the fence (on the inside of the perimeter). That was really the hardest thing for me to notice in the second scenario where it was added, as it's really a somewhat small change visually.
In case of doubt, just add it on both side of the fence.

Also in Mapple Leaf (probably other zoo too), make sure you either don't use the terrain as a natural barrier, or make sure the barrier is actually over the terrain with minimum height.

I made the mistake with Buffalo and to my great surprise they were able to climb the terrain I was sure they could not.

Hope this helps, have fun gaming. And no worries, this game is really not that easy to get the hang of if you haven't played other of the Frontier parks games previously.

Also make sure there are no climbable trees near the barriers.

It does no good to make a nonclimbable fence, then place a tree with a temptingly close to the barrier branch right next to the fence!

What you describe is EXACTLY WORD FOR WORD what happened to me.. the leopard just keep teleporting outside the enclosure.. how realistic xD

I fixed the problem though.. got rid of leopard, bought wolves instead xD

I'll wait my veterinarian worked a bit on some research for better barriers and stuff before I go for another leopard.. maybe it's just better to start with easier animals than the ones who can climb. When you have a good starter setup and that you generate money and that people are happy, you can move on getting more complicated to deal with animals. That's what i'll do.

Usually i have seen beast climbing tree and jump outside or above a water barrier from a nearby rock.

you can select the animal and "with the heat view you can see if there potential escape path usually.

Also, remember that animal animations trump barriers.

Didn't work for me. I had my panther escaping twice so the third time, I decided to sit there and watch it... the animal just teleported outside.... the heat view didn't tell me anything about how.. there was just an icon on top of the head of the animal... :/

What sort of icon?

If there is ANY type of climbable item touching any part of your barrier, any animal that can climb, can and will glitch right through the fencing, it's an unfortunate glitch that has yet to be fixed. Make sure you check the tag menu on the right side of the construction AND nature item menus with the items selected; if any of them are tagged "climbable" this can happen. Most of the wood construction pieces in the game are climbable, including wall pieces. Some trees are not climbable and are safe to place near fences.
