Can West African Lions and African Savannah Elephants co-exist in same habitat?
I know that they don't enrich each other as species... wondering more whether lions attack elephants, or vice versa?

Too expensive to experiment!

Don't think it wise to put a predator in with other species in the game. At best the animals stay stressed nonstop and at worst the lions will kill all your elephants.

Thanks!

If you really want to do it, you could do it in Sandbox and turn off animal fights/dying and most importantly the predator/prey system.

They will "Intimidate" each other which means the adults won't attack eachother but the lions will kill any baby elephants. So i would say don't put them together.

Nope, I'm duly warned! Separate habitats.

There are still plenty of creative combinations. I have one mixed habitat with hippos, African buffalo, and flamingos that also has a boat ride going through it (and I learned that hippos can't cross boat tracks). That's no end of fun when the silly things stop the boat for days at a time.

I mention this because IRL hippos are one of the most dangerous animals in Africa, yet they do fine in our zoos. ;)

I'm thinking of flamingos in with the elephants...
And yes, eventually a 4x4 safari ride will go through elephants and lions (in separate habitats)

@AirToob: Yep, just put one of those ride gates between the habitats. You don't need to make it "airlock" style unless you want realism, either.

How does the 4x4 ride enter a habitat without going through a lock gate? Just curious!

Null barrier and scenery items....

There are some preferable co-habitants for all species - just check the zoopedia. As far as I remember, the African Elephants have no preferred species, but the Asian ones do perfect with long-nosed apes and malayan tapirs. But get ready to set several zoo-keepers up because they have a ton of poop to take care of... (same with savanna habitats if you put some of the suiting animals together)
In general herbivores do not mix well with carnivores.

The real key is to experiment and push what you believe is logical and wrap it all up in a little whimsy just to keep thing interesting.

Can't visualise how that works... sorry... could you explain in a bit more detail?
Two habitats - what stops animals walking through null barriers?
grampers62 Mar 30, 2022 @ 4:53am
The rides may pass through scenery while the animals do not. With that in mind one can make a null section of barrier just big enough for the ride to pass through and place assorted grasses and plants so that it appears the ride goes through it. I don't like it because the scenery just clips through. An alternate way is to have the ride pass along an inside edge of the habitat and separate that from the remaining habitat with scenery, building walls or both. This approach looks good and has the bonus of going through habitat but not through a central section. Another approach is to simply hide the airlock with scenery and such which is dependent on the scenery needs of the animals in the habitat.
