Building placement obstructed....by what??
I am trying to place an exhibit. I have created an area where the path that the visitors walk on widens out so there is plenty of room for an exhibit in the middle. There is nothing there, yet I am still being told that the building is being obstructed. It would be really useful if this game would actually tell you what is obstructing your placement.

Can you post a screenshot?
I can sympathize, the very worse part of this program is the path/building mechanics. Path grids will not align easily with building grids. Elevating paths to make stairs is absolutely horrible at times. Trying to put a roof on a building it another area of frustration. It is something that really needs to be improved/fixed. Sometimes this will work for me. Simply stop, leave it alone and go do something else, then come back and it again. An other thing is work the problem backwards, put the build first and then the paths. Ensure you use the terrain tool "flatten to foundation" tool. Best of luck.

I think I worked it out by looking at the other exhibits. Do all the squares around the exhibit have to be completely free? Is that the issue?
Okay so maybe that isn't the issue because I am also trying to place down a second research hut and this time I have built enough around it so that every square surrounding the hut is free and yet I still cannot put it down.

No not really, they should fit in a 4m space. It is kinda handy to leave some room for donation boxes and do not disturb signs but generally the exhibits should fit in any space like a shop unit does.

Looking at your screenshot. I think it's the wooden path creating the obstruction. It seems to be rounded on the outside edge so it is probably rounded on the inside edge too. Your exhibit would need to float slightly above. Try making a square walkway using grid alignment with one empty space in the middle. The exhibit should slot right into it.

Redhawk with the steps and slopes. I'm going to guess that the problem is mostly getting a straight angle rather than having the staircase slightly skewed in one direction?

The way to do this is to use a grid piece coming off the side of your path. Click to place that then come out of grid mode. You will find you can now drag that new grid piece upward to make a perfectly right angled set of steps. Once that goes up as high as you need it to, level the path off again and go back into grid mode.

You can do this in reverse to go down steps as well, again just place the grid piece then exit grid mode then drag that new piece downward.

That grid pathing is exactly what I meant above so fair play for trying it. The question is...... IS there a hole in path underneath that research hut or is it all solid path under there? If there is no hole I do think that will be a problem.

That area looks familiar. That's a path, you cannot put a building on a path. I think there are bases in construction you can use if you want to elevate a exhibit or whatever, but I am not sure they can be placed on a path, just at the edge of them.

^ exactly that. All facilities need to go at a path edge not actually on a path.
What the others said: You can't build facilities directly on a path. If you want it to be surrounded by them you have to build the facility first, then use the align to grid option in the path menu to connect and build the path around it.
Great, thanks for all the advice. I've finally got it all working.

Was it the path?

Yeah, I am still playing through the tutorials. I only bought the game yesterday and in the second zoo she tells you to increase the number of species in the zoo but doesn't mention HOW you put down new exhibits.

We're a friendly bunch, always happy to help :)

Exhibits can be found in the Facilities menu. I recommend going for Frogs as these breed like crazy and exhibits are generally better for cash than habitat animals. So place down your exhibit box and then you need to go into exhibit trading and choose an animal to go in there.

The breeding like crazy can drive you nuts! Constant low welfare warning because some small creature has just had 50 babies (although I think the latest patch cut down on that.) Unless in the sandbox, you also have to research what makes them more at home.
