Making Semi-Aquatic Habitats
Hey guys, I feel like I am doing something wrong. Anytime I try to add water to downloaded steam habitats, I either get the "water obstructed" error, or if there is supposed to be an underwater walkway with glass, it keeps filling it with water. Does anyone have anytips for these habitats? I tried making my own but I am not creative enough (I much prefer to use the workshop, the habitats are so fantastic) and apparently the Penguins do not like my hard shelter. Any tips would be awesome :)

I would not say you are doing something wrong; it sounds more like you are not familiar with the water mechanics. If you get the "water obstructed" error it is because you are not getting the blue line that verifies water acceptance. Just move your mouse until you get that; water in the game has certain levels.
As to the underwater walkway with glass filling with water, the water tunnels are illusions.
What holds the water back is the pathway. The path has to tunnel under the water and then people add the glass, etc. so it looks like a glass tunnel. Unfortunately, the paths do not transfer with blueprints. If you delete water and try to put the path back and then add water, it will not work. To make it all work, you would have to
move the glass pieces, close the end gaps in terrain, add the water, tunnel with the path under the water, and then add back your "glass tunnel".
I have not done tunnels for awhile and this may all be different now. Hopefully, it has changed and there is an easier way that someone may know.

How are people putting paths through water? Do they turn off the many anti collision settings or what? I assume they create in the sandbox?

Some creature's Welfare needs when setting up a habitat ask for some type of shelter, which the animals often ignore because they prefer to sleep outside! (But don't forget that the shelter has to be large enough for it to get into, and that includes the door.) Many of the aquatic creatures in the game like to sleep on those wooden 'raft' things or a jetty instead, but when you click on the former it says Exposed, not that the animals seem to care. All the animal Welfare setups also expect some form of bedding, even though the animals sleeps outside and Welfare is not suggesting a shelter, so it is classed as wet if you put it outside. The game can be contradictory and puzzling at times.

kevims, what I typed was an older way of doing it. I was curious if things changed or someone found something different. I just looked and there is an excellent you tube by Paulsley that shows a very interesting way of doing water tunnels. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5XXUnU6Z_uk

It would be nice if the next DLC actually added glass tunnel paths that could go through the walls and through the water.

wow ok this makes so much more sense, I'll definitely try out the glass pathway. As to the water being obstructed, i get that it has to say "valid," but even on ones i download, there's nothing in the way, but it comes up as obstructed even at the point where the water is supposed to be, so that's why I am confused. So for example, if there is clearly a penguin water hole feeder just floating, I know where i am supposed to put the water. But most times, it says obstructed for no reason, so I have to place the water drastically lower than the blueprints call for, if that makes sense.

Thats so dumb, but i'll definitely try out the bedding and see if it works. Thank you!!
