Custom Billboards not working? ~Solved~

I have loaded images of the allowed file types to the custom media directory, but when I select the images for the Custom Billboards they remain blank. Even the pre-loaded sample images don't work, but the videos do. Switching from a sample video to a custom or sample image leaves a frame from the video frozen on the screen.

How do I make this work?

EDIT: Solved. Thank you. Apparently if you aren't using Windows 10 you need to use the obscure file format .tga for your custom images in order to get them to show up.

They are working fine for me - both the preloaded and my custom; I do not think it is the game. Have you done the "verify integrity of game files" ?

Twice now. When I first downloaded the game and it failed to run, and then after the 1.5 dropped... both times it had to fix 60some files... not sure how they corrupt so easily when I'm not using any workshop stuff or edits..

Edit: Checked it again. No problems with the integrity yet still doesn't work.

I don't know where to get specifically webm videos for this, but what I have done is find videos I wanted and then just converted them.
There are a TON of free video converters available that will convert other formats to webm.

Catamount - Here is something to check. Did you leave your screenshot inside a folder and drop that folder into the user media file of the game?
If it is in a folder, the screenshot name will still show on the billboard setup but it will not work. The screenshot has to be dropped into the user media file by itself. Sorry if you already know this; it is all I can think of to check. Still, the preloaded things should still work.

I appreciate the attempt to help, but no, I have all the custom files I made directly in the UserMedia file in the various acceptable resolutions and formats.

I saw reports on reddit and the official PZ forums that people running older versions of Windows, rather than Windows 10, can only get file format .tga to display and that none of the other formats work.
Could this be your issue?

I'd never even heard of that format before today and I've saved and edited a lot of images over the last twentysome years. lol How strange. but worth a try. I am using Win 7, avoided the mess that was 10, so I'll give it a try. Thank you.

Windows 10 is far from a mess at this point.
It's the first (and only) version of Windows that I have ever used where I just could use my computer and never have had to troubleshoot windows issues or do a clean reinstall to get back to solid performance.
I've been using it since around a year after it released, without a single re-install....and haven't had any issues at all. Other versions of Windows, all the way back to 3.1, I needed to do a clean re-install a minimum of once a year.

I've been very happy with 7 Home Premium, it's been on this PC since... well, I had this PC built in 2016 and I've never had to reinstall, but I have replaced the HDs and mirrored it over to new ones a few times (as well as replaced almost everything else except the case).
I heard about all the issues and massive privacy issues with 10 released and knew a few people who took the free upgrades to 10 and basically had their systems wrecked and had to just get new computers.. and while I have heard they have made many improvements .. I never really trusted it to be fully true. Plus, as far as I know, they don't have a classic Windows display option for it, and I've been using the Windows 3.1 look since.. well.. 3.1 XD I'm a little intimidated by the idea of having to switch to an OS that looks like my bloody cell phone.. cause I can never figure that damn thing out or make it do what I want (I want my flip phone back. Yes I'm old. I don't care. lol).


Anyway.. back to the topic at hand, yes, it did work. I converted to that oddly obscure file type and boom, custom images on all my boards finally. Thank you.

Glad it worked for you! Sucks that it's the only format though, hopefully they fix it but considering even Microsoft has stopped supporting Windows 7, it wouldn't be something that should be an expectation.

Just as another aside, I use a 3rd party program to get my Windows 10 to start menu, etc. to work and look the same as Windows 7 did. It's something I installed the day after I started using Windows 10 and use still to this day....I absolutely hate the Windows 10 default, so I completely agree with you on that. LOL

Drop me a message some time with with the info on said program. I know I'll be forced to 10 eventually (unless something better comes out before then.. I had a problem with loading billboards in windows 11. Had them in png. Turned out my picture was to big. The size matters!

Conservation Education Board - 9:16, Tall, 256 x 456px
Projection Screens (8m, 16m, 32m) - 16:9, Wide-Large, 1824 x 1024px

Wow, blast from the past. Forgot all about this issue last year. Then again I haven't played the game in so long either, but I'll keep that in mind if I ever return and find myself in that situation. Thanks.
