Do animals like rain ?...
I know my dog (the real thing) hates rain. Often wondered about the Planet Zoo animals. Do they notice rain or not ? Sometimes i see a few Warthogs and other ungulates enter their sleeping quarters after i hit the rain button but that could be more like i *want* to see them do that because they'll get out in the rain again just the same.

Now, for the first time i am 100% sure that atleast a certain animal can spot rain and doesn't like it : the fenneks ! I have 7 of these little guys and gals strutting about their carefully designed habitat at the moment. Just for the heck of it i thought i'd give it a go once again. The whole group is running about outside, i enter their den, keep a low profile and hit the rain button. Et voila ! Within seconds the whole group runs inside one after the other. Once i hit the 'unrain' button the're all out of the den again also within seconds. It's really true, Fenneks hate rain just as my dog does ! ;-)

If i'm not mistaken, could this be the first time we finally have atleast *some* control over animals and what they do ?... I really like it !

Certain animals don't mind it. My flamingos don't care when it rains, nor do crocodiles. But zebras and most antelope will go into their shelters when it does. Same thing with snow, the colder climate animals will be fine in the snow, like wolves and grizzly bears, but lions and cheetahs won't.

yeah, I'm guessing it's coding in somehow, to either be neutral to it or dislike it, same for snow though I think to a less extent.

I just thought this 'anti-rain' behaviour of the Fenneks is quite remarkable because i never have seen it before with any PZ animal. Any of them can go into their shelter when it rains, take a nap and go out again into the rain. Exactly the same happens when it's not raining. Seems to me there is no difference at all. I.e. PZ animals are not programmend to recognise rain.

Until now! With the Fenneks... That's why i have the feeling Frontier added a 'rain detector' to the Fenneks' programming. We can also notice an almost exaggerated shaking of their fur/body after swimming, f.i. like (real) dogs do. Exactly what they do when entering their shelter during rain !

I do not see this behaviour with the Meerkats. They do not enter their shelter 'en masse' when it rains.

In any case, great to know that Frontier does seem to add more 'speciality' to the behaviour of their new PZ animals. Atleast that's my opinion... ;-)

A lot of the animals do that. My wolves especially. The little one usually doesn't mind but both my adults head for a shelter and shake the rain off asap

I noticed the African Buffalo having a jolly time in the mud that had formed where I had painted the ground with soil.

Really ? Must say i can't have wolves in my zoo because my dog goes bezerk by the sounds they make.. ;-)

Correction for the Meerkats: i did not see them entering their shelter when i started rain but they sure *do* hide for it ! Underneath a bridge ! Must say never saw that before. I do some more testing atleast with te new animals.

Thanks!
