Do you have any specific ones to recommend? I've been watching a few and I get the idea but my problem arises when my pieces don't fit perfectly over doors and windows when they snap to the building like they do in the tutorials I've been watching.
Thanks. I have been using the shop front pieces for windows but for whatever reason, they don't fit snugly 100% of the time. They sometimes snap slightly to the left or right of the window, probably like one small grid tile over.
Thanks! I definitely plan to take a look and use some of them but I'd really love to be able to bring my own ideas to life myself as well.
I think I understand you. After fighting with it for several more hours, I clued in to the fact that some of my buildings were not in the same group and that I didn't have the right group selected when placing the construction pieces. Once I figured that out, it somewhat solved my issue of pieces not aligning properly over doors and windows but I have some buildings that don't want to snap to the right group no matter what I do. For example, my large staff room just won't snap next to my quarantine building in the same group no matter what I do. I find navigating the groups a bit confusing still; how do I merge buildings from one group with another so that they all snap together properly? My construction pieces will snap to the right group if I click on a building from that group but the buildings themselves still give me trouble when I want to move them into a different group.

I mean no offense but I think the problem you are having with the building pieces is the way they fit with each other. The building walls need to be flush with basic facility wall so they
join together seamlessly. It sounds like (and I could be wrong) that you are placing the building piece on the outside of the grid and not the inside where the facility wall is.
Here are screen shots to show what I mean. Again, this may not be what you mean.

As to your buildings not snapping next to each other, do mean the basic large staff room will not snap flush with the basic quarantine building? The basics will never snap flush with each other as the game leaves the width of one construction piece wall between them.
Paulsley did a building youtube that might be helpful:

No offence taken. :) Thanks so much! I do find PaulsLey's videos really helpful so I'll give that a watch.
