Terrain Modification Failed?
I've been trying to place things like food stands and steam workshop blueprints(Essentially everything with several items in one placement) for over an hour and it keeps saying 'Terrain modification failed. Does anyone else have this issue? Is there a way to fix it?

First two thing that come to mind:

- turn off "flatten terrain"
- paths that run next to cliffs for example can obstruct connecting new paths/junctions

ive tried so many tips online and i still cant place blueprint items without it mucking up the terrain.. either makes it go up or into a dip or yes terrain mod fail..

Was there a solution for this?

The fix for this lies in the hands of the habitat creator. The cause of this is usually an item in the blueprint having it's base below the base height of the terrain in the habitat. It also helps to have a grid item at base height to set the blueprint's base height. When this is done the habitat will fall to the correct height when placed on flat terrain.
The lack of height alignment turned me off when looking at how habitat were when I started looking at them in the workshop.
A lot of times we will get the terrain warning on habitat blueprints due to the required buffer zone around them. It seems to need over four meters or more precisely four meters of unobstructed flat terrain around the entire habitat.

There are various ways to handle this situation including silk screen, barrier reduction for terrain/water and the easiest being simplified (no terrain/water work). Simplified works well in placing a habitat in a small plot that is already surrounded by paths and a built up area. For example, this is a red panda blueprint I built in sandbox so I can add it later to my franchise zoos. After placing next to the path, I then add the glass/null barriers, enrichment items, and a small pond. If you do workshop items, you could place in sandbox and amend them. It all depends on what you are wanting to do.

I have a solution. Terrain Modification Failed kept popping up when I was attempting to place a habitat barrier. I realized the barrier I was trying to place was TOO CLOSE to a building and path. I temporarily moved the building and for precise fit, just deleted the path (which is very easy to lay down again. When I placed the habitat it went perfectly and accurately right where I wanted it. I moved the building back, rebuilt the path, no more problem.

im having this issue blue prints that are nothing but the barrier and the habitat gate. and im building on a flat map so i don't understands. it will let me place on random parts of the map perfectly fine with is even more confusing.

Terrain modification failed is just a general term in the game that means something went wrong. What the actual error is can be confusing. Most issues with placing blueprints lies in the need for a buffer area around the blueprint that is approximately four meters form the farthest point of the habitat in the north, east, south and west direction from when the habitat blueprint was created. this means that the blueprints may not go right up to anything that controls terrain like paths, water and facilities. They can however go right up to each other.

Many blueprints don't include the original terrain, and that can cause problems.

I am trying to place the Meerkat Desert Dome from the workshop on a flat terrain surrounded by no paths and no buildings and it keeps saying terrain modification failed. What do I do now? All of the above solutions will not allow me to place this specific exhibit. Please help!!!!!

There are a couple of meerkat desert domes; who is the creator on this one?
