otter plant tab at zero
I made an otter exhibit with appropriate plants from the biomes and continent (aquatic and tropical, south america) -- but the plant tab when you click on the animal is still at 0%. Plant "coverage" is correct at 45%, but the other tab is red and at zero no matter how many plants I add or remove (I did a process of elimination and deleted each type of plant to see if that made a difference... annnd nope -- it doesn't budge no matter what I do). It also doesn't display any of the plants as being problematic in the first place. It's frustrating because it significantly affects the welfare of my otters. Is anyone else having this issue? Something I'm missing? Any fixes or ideas?

I find when that happens there will be one plant/tree that will jump it up big time. If there is a big plant you have avoid due to space, try that .. it's similar with the african animals .. most plants won't put a dent in that bar .. then put in one kapok tree and it flies up rofl.

^^^ Thanks... I'll keep experimenting with every option I've got. To be clear, though, it's not the coverage that's the issue... it's the bar that says "plant type is severely inappropriate for this animal" or whatever. No matter WHAT plants I put in there.

Hmm .. I've only had that when a plant has been highlighted .. if you haven't already tried it .. save and quit and restart and see if it fixes itself. It may be a recalculation glitch.

I had this happen to me yesterday (with the otters, oddly enough). I think it is a bug where it does not update. It stayed at 0 forever, then suddenly jumped to 96% despite no significant change in the number of plants. After that it updated normally with the few extra plants I added to reach 100%. Try saving and reloading maybe? Or let it run for a minute unpaused while placing plants to see if it will update.

I had something similar with the caimans. Tried several different trees (place and remove) and it was always way to much or nothing happening to the bar (kapoke tree - 0%??). After what felt an hour, it somehow worked with mangroves. Additionally I observed that underwater greens do not influence the bar at all?

I've had this happen as well. Seems to be a calculation problem, which is sometimes fixed by either hitting play, or saving, or exiting and saving... but then again sometimes not). Especially frustrating if the animal has both an upper and lower range, so that you keep adding plants in the hope of getting it high enough, only to have the recalculation hit and you've suddenly got to many. Happens to me with terrain painting as well sometimes.

I haven't found an actual cause or solution. But have noticed that if I leave them alone and then come back, they will have sometimes sorted themselves out.

Otters seem to have trouble doing any calculations - the deep water often appears as 0 even when it was fine a moment earlier. Also the Underwater Eel Grass doesn't appear in the Environment list, even when I have the water area covered in it to try to reach 100% plants. The Water Hyacinth will add positive to environment though it isn't tagged properly in the Nature tab.
