How to reduce crime and vandalism? How do security guards help?
I was getting a lot of vandalism, until I finally discovered security cameras. With the heat map showing security coverage, I planted these so that between them they cover all the walkways and facilities that I wanted protected.

Sure enough, the amount of vandalism went way down, but it still goes on occasionally in full sight of a security camera.

Which leads me to the question, what are security guards doing, how do they know what the security cameras are seeing, and am I using them properly?

(I have enough of them that they're lightly loaded, and their two work zones between them cover everywhere.)

Any tips or suggestions gratefully appreciated.

Security cameras act more as a deterrent. Security guards can catch some vandals in the act, the higher their training the more efficient they are at their job.

But often the best cure of vandalism is prevention. Have a look at your guests, why aren't they happy. What needs are not being met. Are they hungry, tired, thirsty?

Vandalism for my zoos is rarely a problem, as I try to address most of my guests needs, keeping their stats and happiness up. Happy guests don't vandalize :)

Security guards are better at catching vandals too the more experienced they are.

Inexperienced security will often fail to catch criminal activity whereas more experienced can run for longer and will catch them easier.

This is security related but not vandalism that you asked about.

When there is not much to do in my zoo I occasionally will click on guests to read their comments. I have noticed that most of the guests who are by themselves, not in a group, are usually pickpockets. I just saw one teen who said something about picking pockets so I clicked the button to eject him from the zoo and then I followed to watch him. He headed to a drink stand and a security guard showed up and stood nearby. After the teen got his drink the security guard casually escorted him to the exit and kicked him out.

Very useful, thanks!
