Wait ... what? Hippos enclosure space problem
Started out with these 4 hippos on a 3.5k m2 enclosure... all of them had issues with the size of the thing , too small... removed 2 of them , they got happy space wise , but still unhappy because the group wasnt big enough. so i moved away created one huge thing that they look like dwarves inside it and the problem persists... they still think its crowded... space too low!

2 things to check:

- terrain tab of the animal which breaks down space requirements
- traversability heat map to check which parts of the "thing" (habitat) are accessible.

Yeah and they require vast amounts of land

Perhaps the land space isn't the issue, I think the problem might be the water

There are two requirements for Hippos, land space and water space

You have a lot of both, but is the water deep enough?

The water space needs to be past a certain depth. Hippos don't really swim in the game, but rather walk along the bottom, so they need deep water to move around in.

Try removing the water and making it deeper, also make sure its not too steep and that the hippos can get in and out of the water easily :)

For Orangutan there is land and climbing requirement (which is height required).

Do you have enough climbing areas for them, also are they tall enough?

How deep water is dosen't matter. btw hippos in rl are so dense that they run on the bottom of lakes

It can matter, actually. If the water is too shallow for the animals then A.I doesn't recognize the water as being deep enough to "swim" or walk on the bottom of and will ignore it.

Give it a try, if changing the water depth doesn't work, then it could be a bug. But it will at least eliminate one possible problem :)

Oh, also check the slope to the water, if its too steep then the animals have no way to get in or out they will ignore the water for "swimming". Check your animals accessibility of the exhibit, can they get in and out of the water?

Ok if its not even a hole in the ground then it matters but Rudi proved it in a video if you fill a hole with water.

oh it was deep alright... just needed tons of smoothing and remodeling all in all. i didnt know much about the game , had to check the traversable areas , they had problem , they could move until a certain point and then it became too steep , so the rest of the water was practically unreachable and unusable.
