I don´t know, realistic environment is not really the thing. You also could not have any kind of tropical plants outdoors in zoos in colder regions and vice versa, because they couldn´t handle the temperature. And in the game you need to do so, to give the animals their natural habitat they want to have. So that is also not the most realistic factor. And while animals not even feed on the plants, they shouldn´t even care what kind of plants are growing there, when there is enough cover for them. Back to the topic, I would like to see this, it looks kind of weird, when African savannah animals walk on saturated greenish grass in a zoo. I would like to see the option to use every terrain paint everywhere. You can still decide what kind of terrain you like to use then, so no big problem for anybody if this feature is present.
Idk if it should be in franchise mode but, for sandbox where the point is to be as creative as possible they should absolutely do it.
