A beta test, would imply a testing phase.
This is a typical selling / "hype people up" phase, that you see more devs do over the past x years.
Beta will basicly be release version with some bugs crushed they already know about at that point.
Just get the bog standard version rather than moaning about it

That's exactly what I intend to do. Buy the bog standard version on the day of actual release in November and not before. Anybody who buys the "Deluxe version" preorder is just wasting their money. LOL
Ah yes, the new form of victim blaming.
A developer of a game calls for, "hey pre-order and we give those people acces to a beta! it will help us!.. because thats what a beta is, a test period for the game! so buy eh?", but it turns out to be a glorified demo..

Silly us for "not knowing about marketing campaigns".. in which case this would actually be false advertising, for which there are laws against by the way. (not saying it should go that far, but apparently you want to stick to some very black and white facts)
