It depends on what you are feeling. Starting in franchise can give you time to learn a few game essentials yourself to get through the scenarios faster. And Sandbox is good for testing pathing and building out without spending money. But I did a mix between franchise and scenarios when I started. (If I'm more in a building, planning mode I do franchise. Otherwise I just go through the story). Plus, the scenario teaches you throughout. But some things I didn't learn until I was in franchise. If there are community challenges, those are only in franchise mode.

Just wondering i know this is off topic when making buildings and other objects is it best to go into sandbox and build items then import into own zoo

I like franchise myself. I mess around building things in sandbox, trying ideas out, but I don't have an actual sandbox zoo with animals. I make bluprints of things I might use in multiple zoos in sandbox like domes etc.

No worries. I like to use sandbox to make some buildings and save those blueprints so I can quickly do make it in a franchise or scenario. It's pretty useful. Of course you can do that anywhere, but it's kinda nice to just have a place to only focus on buildings, and their alignment to the entrance.
