trouble rotating objects
I just started this game today and am stuck on the littlest thing: I can't rotate objects except with Z, which does 90 degree increments. For finer tuning, the instructions say use Z + l/r arrow keys. But even when I'm holding down Z, the arrow keys make the whole view pan left or right. Nothing to do with rotating the object. I looked at the advanced placement tool, but couldn't figure out how to use it to help. Any tips on rotating objects? Thanks!

You can adjust angle snap or take it off completely and use middle mouse button. For advanced (and this is the best way to go) hit "x" once for directional arrows and hit "x" again to get your rotations. You will save yourself a lot of time and frustration by learning the advanced movements if you like to build an lot.

Are you on a laptop without a mouse? If so read this entire thread. https://steamcommunity.com/app/703080/discussions/0/3145133271984662650/

You can hold z and use mouse or laptop scroll pad. (Still kind of glitchy even with mouse.) Advanced move you highlight object and hit x. Three arrows show direction to move when you highlight arrow, hold left click and use mouse or scroll pad. To rotate you hit x again and it should show 3 circles. Same concept, highlight the circle, hold left click and move.

Actually, I'm using a desktop with a mouse. But thanks for the directions! I think I've got it.

That's funny because I just mentioned making a guide in another thread. I may have a new improved method though that I need to test first.

I don't even have a laptop but this was asked so often (even in beta) that I messed around with controls a bit to try to find a solution. If you google "laptop controls planet zoo" it is the second result and the only one dealing with laptop controls. (Now how can I put ads in that?)
