999m^2 + 1m^2 = 1000m^2 = 1km^2
Everything is calculating fine.
"1000m^2 = 1km^2" ... is this meant to be a joke? ... its simply wrong.
Imagine 1 km^2 as 1000m x 1000m area, how many 1m x 1m squares fit into this area? -> 1,000,000 and not 1,000. So 1km^2 = 1,000,000 m^2 and NOT 1,000m^2.
Kilo - Thousand.
kilometer - one thousand meters.
km = kilometer
Squared dimensions are two dimensional measurements, X and Y on a 'floor'.
You don't measure meters standard, by meters squared. That's not how measurements work. 1000m Squared is a 'total area' of how many 1m boxes there are, in that 1km area.. which is 1000.. Not 1,000,000..
you don't multiply 1000 by 1000..to get square dimensional measurements.

If the developers would "mean" 1k m^2, they wouldn't place a gap between the number and the "k" and no gap between the "k" and "m^2". "xy km^2" is an international established symbol for square kilometers.
I didn't want to start a discussion here and I am sorry for any confusion. The game just puts so much effort in great additional (educational) information (e.g. Zoopedia) and I guess there are many young players learning new things from the game - it just should be changed and as I said I created a ticket.
Also. If you didn't want to start a discussion. why bring it up here.
Here the math one: https://www.wolframalpha.com/input/?i=1km%5E2
1000 m*squared is equal to 1km* Squared
1000 m*squared is not equal to 1 (kilometer)*squared
You're talking about an english problem. Defining where they are ephasizing "Kilometer" versus "thousand meters"
It's literally the most ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ non-arguement there is
1 whole km Squared = 1,000,000 square meters.
1km = 1000 meters squared.
You're argueing that any and all meters squared are emphasizing the "Kilometers" as full measurements. and not collectives of 1000 meters.
The game measures in meters, and 1000 meters is *equal* to 1km squared.
Zig literally explained this already.
1k m^2 = 1,000 m^2
1 km^2 = 1,000,000 m^2
Thats the whole point of my comment. Enough said from my side.
What they mean in the game by "1 squared kilometer" is basically 1000 square meters, which is "correct" since 1000 = kilo.
However, they could've phrased it differently since 1 "kilometer squared" is, like you said, 1000x1000. Observe the difference in the wording though: "kilometer squared" vs "squared kilometer". It doesn't make total sense, but that's how they phrased it in-game.
(I know they use acronyms in the game, but I used the full word to make it more obvious).
