Terrain too uneven...
I'm trying to lay down a path on some terrain that, to me, looks absolutely smooth. But when I try to click to place it down, it says that the terrain is too uneven. I love this game, but the path system drives me insane. None of the extra path settings are checked on. Anyone know what to do?

Use your terrain tool to flatten to foundation.

I too have encountered this. I have been trying this flatten to foundation / surface / smoothing. Tried all of it. Doesnt really work. Probably cause the area is too small i dont know but it seems when you already build stuff in the neighbourhood it doesnt really work anymore which is very frustrating.
when i flattened an entire hill with flatten to foundation it did work to build roads / buildings on but when you find out when you already build stuff in the neighbourhood its almost impossible to fix i find unless you dont mind deleting stuff!

I've tried the terrain tools already. I even deleted some of the already-existing path (to which I'm trying to connect) and tried smoothing the terrain there too. Nothing worked... Very disappointing. :( I'll keep trying different things.

Make sure you don't have any options selected in the second tab of the path menu that could cause you problems, for instance there is one for 'flatten terrain' which I never use because it never seemed to work lol

Yes, I found out the hard way for a new zoo- click on the path at the entrance to flatten terrain over a large area. It might cost an initial $1,000. but worth not having later headaches. :P

I've found that paths and barriers just don't mix. The game doesn't want you to build barriers right up as close as possible to the path edge; if you do, you won't be able to edit the kerb of the path opposite the barrier, or add anything that needs that kerb edited (like placing a building, powerplant, etc). Apparently we're supposed to put barriers several metres away from the pathways, so our guests are forced to use binoculars to see the animals way over there in the distance.I keep forgetting this, and find I have to edit and grab the barrier pillars and shove them far back away from the path before it lets me edit the path, then I have to move the pillars back again when done. If you do this, just be careful that there aren't any critters hiding right there behind the barrier when you move pieces of it backwards, or you'll create an escapee.

The best way to avoid it is lay out the entire pathway network around a proposed habitat site, build everything you want to build on and around the pathways (buildings, utilities, etc), then build the habitat barrier last.

I have this problem aswell. I have disabled and enabled all of the secondary options for the paths, deleted barriers and edited terrain. I cant find a way to fix it but i really dont want to start a new zoo since i spent a lot of time on this one. Nothing works.

I think i found the problem. There was a cavern in underground with paths in it that i used to use for staff buildings. I deleted all the paths and filled in the hole, this seemed to work. I advise you to check for any holes underground from past terrain modifications.

It won't be the hole causing that but the paths.
