Does a solar panel still work when you put it inside of a building?
Does it still work if I place it inside a building away form the sun etc?

No.

You want to make sure that it gets as much sunlight as possible. If the sun seems to be on one side of the zoo all the time then have it facing that side so the sun always hits it.

This is purely cosmetic, as long as the solar panel is not covered it gives the same power regardless of the position of the sun etc (40m range). I have one solar panel underground at a station platform with just a small slither of glass roof above it, works are well as one stuck out in a field.

Thanks for confirming. Where they have a day/night cycle I wasn't sure if they were using that light angle for the solar panels.

I usually place mine on top of a workshop in a staff area, or on the ground in a visitor area.
