Or, I experienced 1 time that i had to go back to main menu and load up again.
Hippos need two types of water and if you mess up either they have issues. They need the shallow bit that is nice and smooth. Depending how many you have it's roughly about 3rd of their habitat.
Then they need the deeper part. The TOO DEEP and TOO SHALLOW and not enough or too much is important. The depth is just enough for them to go under water with a little bit over their heads. Any deeper than that the water amount for their habitat shows not enough or they won't traverse the whole place.
