Old pregnant animals die
Is it just me or is it truly not nice that old animals die during there pregnancy? I had that situation very often. It is like "Come on, stay strong for the last few days" RIP. Maybe that is realistic, but I don´t like it. What do you think?

I don't have a problem with it myself. I am more surprised they get pregnant so close to death rather than they died while pregnant.

It is sad. I actually had one time where the offspring were due and the mother dies prior to birth. I was so sad! Turns out the next day I looked in the trade center and had 4 beautiful baby Siberian Tigers waiting for me. So sometimes it's worth a trade center check to see if the babies made it or not.

Ah, good to know! Lucky you ^^ It is especially sad if the animal had a long pregnancy period, cause offspring is so rare in this case. Well, it seems that I will have to deal with it.

Mate I’ve had enough of animals dieing. In my view it seems that there is a staff problem which only happens depending on how your staff buildings and paths are laid out. If opinion I’m then you won’t get a problem. The minute staff have to think about it all hell breaks loose.

But.....

Ranted about it to Frontier and they’re on the ball.

Supposedly it says in the game that aged animals become sterile. It seems they do not!

BTW. No vet or keeper will stop an animal dieing of old age ...

It depends on the animal/species. Some are fertile their entire lifespan.

I think you mean the zoo keeper bug, which is another topic. I had this issue too (I had it during the Beta and lose a lot of animals, they starved or died of thirst). Since the launch the problem is solved in my case. Sometimes the keepers feed a little late, but constantely. I have round about 130 animals, 3 large zookeeper huts and 2 small huts (all place near by a couple of enclosures and vivariums) and 12 keepers, all leveled up on the highest knowledge level. All animals get the Level 3 food. Everything works pretty well.

I read that it might help to send a starving animal to the quarantine. And keep in mind that the keeper fill the toys first. I had a baby hippo, it tried to get some food out of a large toy but it did not work (the toy was filled). A big hippo had success. Dont know if it was a bug or if the little hippo did not have enough power to move the large barrel.

But I meant another topic. I meant very old animals, who are pregant, but die before they give births. For example I had several zebras, 28, 29 years old. Pregnant, only a few weeks left until they will have there offspring and then - dead because of there age. A natural death, but nevertheless I dont like it.

Probably just bad luck. If the animal is fertile for her whole adult lifespan, and happens to reach the end while she's pregnant, a pregnancy isn't going to keep her alive... But it doesn't seem like pregnant animals are more likely to die either.

I would like to know whether mother animals in this game nurse and take care of the babies similar to zoo tycoon 2?

Yes, it is just bad luck probably. No, I think pregnant old animals die "normal often", as often as unpregnant old animals. Maybe mine are just... happily in love until a veeeery old age, cause I had this case round about 15 times. Therefore it is a bit frustrating ^^

I played ZT2 for many many years. First of all - Planet Zoo is truly awesome an a loooot of fun! Currently I can not remember what the mothers did in ZT2, therefore it is difficult to compare it. I will observer various animals and their offspring in my zoo, maybe I can describe some behaviors. Maybe you will find a Lets Play somewhere to take a look an the connection between mummies and babies.

A Mother Orangutan in real life will nurse a newborn and teach it to climb. The baby will also cling to it's mother even when the mother is climbing.

In the game the baby can climb right at birth and has no clinging onto its mother whatsoever.

True. There seems to be not "breastfeest" at all or did I missed it? I have lions and tigers, it seems the puppies eat meat from the very beginning.

Yep. I have played for 700 hrs and all the babies i have seen do exactly what the adults do. I have noticed Lion cubs playfighting with the female lions. Also noticed a female polar bear and her baby will follow the male around the habitat sometimes.
