Sometimes other areas of known size in the vicinity can help to make a better estimation.
Side note: The number shown in the Zoopedia is the minimal space requirement of the traversable area, for one animal. Be aware that you need more than that to make your animals happy. Putting things into the habitat will reduce the traversable area, and every additional animal increases the space requirement a bit. The amount depends on the species - additional turtles require only 5 sqm more, other animals require 100sqm more per animal, etc.
Also you might need to leave some extra space due to shelter, terrain, water, future babies also take space then what the Zoopedia sugguests.
