How to get straight grid guided barriers?
So when I play paths I use snap to grid it works great to keep it nice and neat. I cant figure out how to get barriers to be perfectly straight and aligned to a grid so they are symmetrical. I'm sick of looking at all these wonky enclosures it looks so terrible no matter how hard I try, any advice?

Angle snap will help you, just need to get the first barrier right yourself

Yeah seems to be the big problem though, even a couple degrees off and when building a log enclosure is when the problem seems to rear its ugly head the most. I wish Frontier would take from City Skylines approach more.

Unfortunately it's not possible to get the barriers aligned to any grid - but there are some other options:

a) use the angle snap and if you are off by a degree or two just tweak the barrier afterwards.
b) use null barriers + walls (which are grid based).

It would be great if we had an Align To Path setting for barriers rather than just Align to Barriers setting for paths. Maybe they will add that someday.

Best way I've found is to build a door frame and place your barrier gate inside the opening, lining it up as close as possible with the frame, and then place your barrier walls off of that using angle snap.

Walls start perfectly aligned to the outside grid. Use this to start an object group. Add other objects to the group that you can use as temporary guides on the grid. In this example, you see I used floor planks. Once the floor planks were down (guided by the grid I started on the zoo barrier with walls), I used the null barrier to make a perfect square at the perfect distance from the path (on the same grid) for bins and such. I did that by lining up the wall endcaps into the holes of the plank floor. Once the barrier is done, I multi-select the floor pieces and delete them, then convert the null barrier to a concrete one.

Place the habitat entrance first, then build from there. The entrance starts at the default angle and can use angle snap, but the fence segments cannot.

You're using double 4 paths?

I've been experimenting with running a central path right down the middle and using inner 'islands' for shops and junk. The foot traffic gets really heavy on it. Sort of like this WIP:

hmm I've been doing the opposite. Just starting with a large path.

The reason I asked is I finally ended my misery with the align to grid issue. I didn't know the starting path out of the gate was size 7 and when you use the grid tool at a larger size to connect a path it reverts to the default path size. So all my buildings like the one you have in the top left where a headache to align.

So I figured that was the reason you split into 2 - 4 sized paths.

I stopped worrying about it and just left my ocd tendencies aside for now. It would be nice to having everything preset to some kind of global grid though that you could turn on and off. Considering the preset size of the maps it shouldn't be a problem. Maybe one day, not enough depth to keep me playing non stop so Ill check back in a couple months and see if there's any progress.

How can you turn your OCD off? :D

If you use a 8 size grid path it allows you to place the building grid over it so the pieces are slightly bigger than the path and everything lines up pretty well. I imagine size 4 would be the same thing. You just have to redo the entry path so that it's 8 and everything you build from there should be golden.
