Why cant I have a proper Wolf Pack?
Wolves have always been my Favorite animal. Love everything about them, especially the pack mentality. So, of course, what I was looking forward to the most with this game was having the main feature of my own zoo be a family of wolves. A nice large wolf pack.

I got the game, I started of with smaller, easier animals (mainly croco's and tortoises) to get a feel of the game.

Then the big part, The part I was most looking forward to. I have saved up my leaves, and was finally searching the market for a nice, healthy mostly green male and female wolf. I found the two I wanted, plopped them in the pre-prepared box and edited it to their liking — if they like a mansion size habitat that is.

All was good, I checked on my croco's as snow had arrived, and they weren't having a good time. After fixing them up I go back to my two wolves, Adam and Eve in time to see them snuggling and being cute — low and behold I get the notification that Eve is expecting Offspring. I spend the next twenty or so minutes in camera mode on Eve, just watching and waiting — my croco's have a couple protesters in on their behalf but.... wolves.

Then it came. BABIES. Three little baby wolves. A girl and two boys. I spend the next hour or so just watching them grow and interact and play and LOVE it.

Then comes the problem. The two boys age up first (I mean... I saw them all come outta mamma at the same time, but the girl took a couple months longer to age up but its fine. Extra pup) They became two big boy wolves, and I was thinking about getting another female from the workshop so one of them could make their own family, be the Beta family.

.... But..... Brother No. 1 decided he didn't like his brother and attacked brother No. 2. No. 2 got injured and was taken to the vet. I decided brother No. 1 wasn't suited for my nice happy family and released him into the wild to find his own girl and start his own family.

By the time brother No. 2 comes back his sister has grown up and is now also a big girl. Adam and Eve at this point were getting old and no longer fertile. I got another girl, Amara off the market for brother No.2.

Little sister however.... decided she hated her DAD and decided to fight him... TO THE DEATH (... daaang girl was NOT happy to get her periods) I decided she was too grumpy and released her to the wild to sort her anger issues out all by herself.

Now i'm left with mama Eve who's depressed because her first son and baby girl have been released and her partner is now dead.... I decide to be kind and release her too. Hopefully she's found her daughter and they are happy together.

Amara and Brother 2 hit it off. And the next year there are now FOUR ittle bittle ADORABLE pups running around, three boys and a girl.

My question now is... will I be able to keep Brother 2, Amara and their four pups together? Or are they all going to fight?? Wolves are supposed to be families, big packs up to 12. I want a big family. I want my wolves to stay together. Will the pups fight Amara and Brother 2 when they age up? Or will they be a nice big family and be happy? Can I then introduce a new mate for one of the four kids? (obvs dont want any inbreeding)

Anyone else had luck with actually packs of wolves? Do they work out? Was I over-reacting sending Brother 1 and Little sister away???

Watch the Zoopedia it says max. groupsize 2 (1 Male + 1 Female) so the answer is no. And i dont argue if thats realistic its just how it is in the game.

Check their zoopedia entry - it tells you the acceptable population for each animal.

The wiki says group size 2-12 :-(

Group size is 2 to 12, but a maximum of 1 adult male and 1 adult female. The rest have to be infants.

https://io9.gizmodo.com/why-everything-you-know-about-wolf-packs-is-wrong-502754629

Ageing in this game is infant to adult in an instant with nothing in between, so one day it's Dad, Mum and cute little pups, the next day they morph into adults and are fighting over dominance. In the wild they just grow up and leave to form their own families - I suspect if forced together in captivity then it does cause social issues but I couldn't find a study to confirm that.

My older wolves had a second pair of pups and then both died shortly afterwards so the infants are now being cared for by an older brother who is now an adult and his mate who I brought in from the market.
So if you desperately want a pack then as far as I can tell adopted families work just as well in the game so you can breed from multiple pairs of wolves (in separate enclosures) and put all the infants in one enclosure. But it's always going to be, 1 "Dad", 1 "Mum" and then only infants.

Scrub that, they just posted this in today's patch notes...

"Increased population and sex limits of Timber Wolf and African Wild Dog allowing for larger, relatively peaceful packs that still Alpha fight infrequently."

Enjoy your packs :-)

Fixed in todays patch you can now have 12 male and 12 females for the Timber Wolves and 27 males and 9 females for the African Wild Dogs.

really!? omf yeeeeeeeeeeeeesssssssssssssssssssssssss :-DDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD
I have the update, but still am having severe fighting in my career mode between two male wolves

Super glad there seems to have been an update as I too love my wolves, but the behaviours of my two packs has not changed in the slightest. Fights for dominance are pretty constant, so I will stick to the Lions to fill my enjoyment of a big family group.

Same,

In Franchise mode I just placed two females and a male and the females are fighting each other. Shame I really wanted a large wolf pack. I thought it was fixed :(

Alpha thing. The beta female wants to be the Alpha. Would having a second male fix the problem?

Nope, a second male didn't help. Now the males are fighting for alpha status

It says beta animals can't mate, how did you get five pairs?

i saw that they´ve changed that with the last "patch" and tried it... i was so glad that they fixed that, because in the Beta there was 12 max too ...

How? i placed them :) Only the Alphacouple becomes babys..... i will see what happens the next "days" ^^
