Is there a bug with the Hard Shelter??
Up until yesterday I could have "caves" or "rock shelters" that would count as their hard shelter. But now not even the standard shelters seem to be counting??

Not as far as I know. Make sure they are on the base ground. I'm not sure elevated shelters count. (never tried tbh)

Not sure man. Hard to say without being able to look around. :(

Saves get corrupted sometimes, especially large Zoos. :(

You can attempt to load a previous save maybe? I have not looked into the save folder yet so do not know how it works. If it does multiple saves of the same or not.

Having same problem. Having rocks added to my hard shelters seems to make them become less useful. Caves are also not working as hard shelter as intended.

I'm also having a very frustrating time with hard shelters in some of my exhibits. I have an exhibit with 3 Chinese Pangolin's and made an 8mx4m hard shelter with 3 medium bedding in it. The animals all said only about 44% for hard shelter even though it is more than big enough for the tiny animal and I even added more bedding spots. I then made another shelter out of rocks (which worked before in the Grizzly and Wolf enclosures) again completely enclosed and more than big enough for the 3 tiny Pangolin's with multiple bedding and the hard shelter % didn't change. I feel like something is very off with this. Hoping it's looked into soon.

I had some tigers who for some reason couldn't use my cave and said it wasn't big enough even though it clearly was. Traverse map said they couldn't get in it except for the middle, even though it was obviously open enough. Now I have one single tortoise who has a huge shelter and he says it isnt big enough even though I could fit like 5 of them in there lol if not more

Try changing the shelters position, and make sure there are enough beds of the correct size.

Have you checked the heatmap for shelters? There you can see which parts are counting as a shelter for the specific exhibit and animal.

Whenever I've had issue with hard shelter being recognized it is because the animal couldn't fully enter and use all of the available space that I "thought" they should be using. Use the Heat map for habitats and look at both traversable and hard shelter.

You may need to smooth some terrain and adjust the shelter a bit for the animals in question to actually use more of the space that you think they should. Height also matters, larger animals can't use it if the ceiling is too low.

Everytime this happened to me, it turned out to be that the path to the shelter (especially caves) was inaccessible. Use the habitat radar to see what is traversable. Makes sure you click on the animal when you do, otherwise the radar won't show anything. Also make sure you select both the biggest and smallest of your species, as size really matters for traversing terrain. Usually it suffices by selecting the biggest for issues like these, as they tend to have more difficulty fitting in certain tight spaces.

I was going to post the same thing. I built a cave for my bears but it was not registering as a hard shelter. I wonder if the cave is too steep for the bears to walk in.
