I run global snapping disabled so maybe that's why mine is reversed from yours.
I've checked the "global vertical snapping" option on and off and it does absolutely nothing
Global vertical snapping changes how you start the grid construction, I'm just not sure what else it could affect inside the grid builds.
Try to place a drink shop or wall (as a new group). Hold shift and move up/down with the mouse. If global snapping is on, the starter grid will move up/down in 1m increments. If global snapping is disabled it's free flowing. Kind of like turning on/off angle snap, but vertically.
It looks like this has been already posted to the issue tracker, so hopefully we get a fix for it sooner or later.
That's how it is supposed to work, but totally doesn't work... I've gotten so used to it not working that when it finally gets fixed will have to relearn how to build badly formed and crudely decorated buildings.
Dunno, works for me still.
Also, more often lately, while in build mode, I'll place a piece and then when I go to place my next piece, I'm stuck in a vertical raise/lower mode (as if I was holding Shift down) directly above/below the piece I had just placed. I can right click out of it and re-select the piece, but it's just another frustrating mechanic that takes up more time.
It's a shame for a building game like PZ that even the building system is bugged. Which is the same system they use in PC - where it works. So, 10 months after release they haven't fixed it yet. Although people mentioned it already in december on their site. Take a look how lazy they're working on those bugs. I doubt that they'll fix it as long as the most PZ gamers don't care about bugs because they're so overwhelmed from those "unique and individual looking and behaving" animals.
