It's actually dead easy to make income in this game
2 enclosures, 1 of each staff. A few benches. If money is not too tight, food and drink stall and a few bins. Done. The plus is coming soon.
Note, just don't take animals, which have too high requirements for the start. Large enclosures or extremely dense vegetation is something you'd want to avoid in the beginning.
It is realistic that some jobs start at a higher wage than others, just like real life. You go to college or trade school to learn a specialized job you expect higher starting pay.
