Lions would beat out tigers i would imagine due to the year maturity instead of 4.

All the cats gets very expensive on food and can easily break even well established Zoo... But Lions hit my jackpot especially after I achieved 4x100% on most of offspring.

I've been experimenting a little and found that ostriches work best for me. Tey are relatively cheap on the market so you can start with them right away, you can put up to 7 females with one male and they breed like crazy.

Ostriches, Wild Dogs, Peafowls, Timber Wolves and Flamingos. They are all fast breeders. Granted you wont make a lot of CC per animal, but since they have a lot of offspring in their lifetimes (especially the birds) you can easily farm CC; even by just releasing them to the wild.

I started off with red ruffed lemurs, and kept breeding them (1 male with 2 females). Each litter(?) gave 3 offspring. They can be released for about 45 CCs, and sold for about 90. Then, I got some lions. 1 lion can be released for at least 500 CCs. If you get lions, get 2 females and a male. Any male offspring you get, either release them (faster method) or sell them (more CC method). Keep the females for the 2nd generation, and but a new male once the original dies. That's what I'm doing. And don't be afraid to get an albino. Ironically, my white female was cheaper and had better genetics than the original colored lioness

What works best, like Fabulized just said, are Ostriches, and Warthogs they Profit each other, and in a couple hours you can buy Cheetas or Tigers, who give way more.
I also have many enclosures for Cheetas so i dont mix breed.

Many approaches to this question have been tried. Basically, in the early years it's just a bit of a grind. Look for species that breed multiple offspring, mature fast and can breed often. Selling animals in the market can gain credits better than releasing them but can be more tedious than it has to be so don't be afraid of losing credits in releasing lesser value animals.
Remember, it's all about having fun while you play and not stressing too much over the details.

I would say Nile monitors to start as they are very available on the market at high ranking and as mentioned give 6-7 babies at reasonably quick maturity and can have several broods over a lifespan. Ostriches have a very long life span and you can have multiple females - they just need a good deal of space. This can help you to work towards Cheetahs which are probably, alongside Lions, the best at higher CC cost to invest in, the most effective payback. Gemsbok, Pronghorn and springbok are also great base game as you can have larger herds - get a decent male and buy cash females, release the lower quality animals and select the best animals for long term use.

Jaguars for me. They can be bought for cash and if you can find some with 60-80 fertility, you can get 2-3 cubs, 4 if you can juggle a breeding rotation where most of the cats have 100 fertility. Can sell a jaguar with decent stats for 500+ credits, all from a cash bought stock.

I would say Artic Fox, as they breed fast and give good Credit Points on the market and on release. Llamas and Peafowls as they can be a walk through habitat and bring decent visitor happiness and money for donation, so you can release them and don't have to worry about the market. They are quantity over quality for me. Lemurs are very good on the market for most times, and breed fast. They can be a huge number as a group too. Penguins also work very well for market, release and breeding and also can be a huge group with multiple males and females. They breed decently fast and visitors love them.
Always highest value on the market seem to be Lions and Gorillas. So if your zoo has enough income, go that way. Lions with 4x100% will give you 10000 credits without any doubt, Gorillas don't even have to have perfect stats to give you good credits. Other monkeys and apes are also working very well on the market, but they are not as easy to get a good starter group, so you will need to invest some time in breeding before you can sell a higher value on the market.

I'd say, my prairie dogs, arctic fox, and tiger snails are amazing. Tiger snails breed fast, prairie dogs breed fast, and while those two don't give many points, arctic foxes give a ton, breed fast, and in my opinion they're all pretty cool.

Most of the animals breed fast if set on max ageing, but they also die fast! Some animals do not live very long.
