I don't play in english so the names might be wrong.
You open the pet store (second labeled button at the bottom left), the window will show you the pet storage, i.e. your warehouse. Now click in this window on the top left on the slightly bigger button on which a paw with a price tag is shown, that opens the animal market. There should appear actually quite fast some of them.
The game itself is very slow paced, requires a lot of patience. If you're losing it on the first mission I can only recommend taking a few minutes to breathe and relax because it's not meant to happen quickly.
The first couple of career scenarios, which are basically the game's tutorial, are heavily scripted and expect you to do very specific things in very specific orders or they don't progress. Fortunately, you can usually find older forum posts that help clarify if you get stuck (such as this one).
Also, fortunately, once you get past those first few career scenarios things open up and are far less restrictive.
