Just don't hike the prices up to quickly to start or people won't visit, and only increase the price a little ($2-$5) when it tells you that visitors think it's too cheep.
Oh and remember to add donation boxes (Guest Facilities) near your viewing areas for a little extra cash. :)
The information centre is good as well, as adoption packs are %100 Profit.
Don't worry too much about education only one per habitat near the viewing ares is fine until you have a bit more money. you don't want to high an electric bill. Check your Zoo costs to see where you are losing money. It sometimes helps.
Ignore the education rating for now - isn't that important imo, at least not at that moment.
A pic would be great to try to see what you did wrong/right.
Personally i run into a few more problems with the current build than during the beta.
But overall it's still about getting a few selected (beautiful, low space requirement, no water requirement, fitting toward your natural biome to not need additional heating/cooling). Scram everything as close as you can together in the beginning -> 4 enclosures - 1 power supply works fine - and most of the time 1 staffer for each job is enough for 3-4 enclosures.
If you failed with that you might want to get a loan and try to adjust by adding other animals (hog the trading screen and hit reload on money options of nessecary to gain a pair of more interesting animals).
It also can take some time - animal breeding will naturally increase how many interesting animals your zoo houses. Which can help to some degree. So hanging in until you get the first offsprings sometimes is good enough.
